Organization Background:The Inner City Education Foundation, known as ICEF Public Schools, is a nonprofit charter school network serving communities in the South Los Angeles area for 25 years. ICEF Public Schools operates seven high-quality, tuition-free, public charter elementary, middle, and high schools serving over 2,000 scholars from TK-12th grade.ICEF's mission is to educate and empower courageous leaders to pursue their full potential in college, career, and life by providing a community that honors each student's unique identity, fosters academic excellence, nurtures healthy minds, and inspires critical thinkers.Position Description:As our new Data Strategist, your main goal will be to provide sound data and analytical support that inform our ongoing organizational learning and decision-making, rooted in equity-based principles and practices. This position will report directly to our VP of Strategy and will have direct exposure to the ICEF senior leadership team and Board. We want someone who is a critical thinker, a data geek, and has an aptitude for seeing the big picture and how the pieces fit together. You can sift through reams of information to find patterns and insights and have great intuitive sense that allows you to understand what is relevant to your analysis and what is not. You desire to make meaning out of data and to generate insights that lead to decisions. You are relentless: you won’t give up seeking new ways to help the ICEF team answer critically important questions such as: what do ICEF students and their families need? Are we adequately preparing them for fulfill their full potential? Is the organization on track to fulfilling its strategic goals? If not, what could it be doing better? What are other school networks doing better? You are also aware of the shortcomings present in any data analysis – you are the first to point out what the data can tell us and what it does not.You are also an exceptionally strong communicator and collaborator, with the ability to effectively communicate your findings and ideas to teammates and partners alike. You love learning – you constantly seek out growth and development. You have a strong customer-service orientation, and love helping the people you support understand your findings.Reporting:FLSA Status: ExemptPay Cycle: 12 monthsSalary: Commensurate with Experience ($80,000-$95,000)Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Retirement PlanStrategy and Data Leadership
  • Support the strategic decision making of iCEF’s senior leadership team: you will be helping the team look critically at our data to identify trends and generate hypothesis (e.g. what to do about it)
  • Prepare content (data visualization) for our Board to help drive insight and discussion
  • Conduct qualitative (benchmarking academic performance results using publicly available data sets) and quantitative research (design surveys and analyze results, focus groups), including data analysis, insight generation and visualization of data (presentations, reports, etc.)
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, ATTRIBUTES
  • Relevant work experience (3 years), Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, and demonstrated analytical track record (coursework, professional experience, etc) – prefer someone with both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis experience (please send samples with your application), some experience with statistical analysis a plus (correlations, simple regressions)
  • Experience engaging in equity work using a set of principles and practices through a lens of justice, equity, and inclusivity.
  • Strong ability to collect, organize, and synthesize data into insights; presumes facility with Excel, pivot tables; experience with surveys and Power Query a plus
  • Strong command of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word (and/or other relevant programs such as Tableau, SaaS, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate complexity in a simple, concise way
  • Ability to break down complex projects into actionable goals, targets, and milestones, and can manage self and others to these
  • Extremely detail-oriented with a strong penchant for keeping things organized – you know how to organize data analysis so that the steps you took and assumptions are clear to anyone who opens it – even a year later
  • Strong problem-solving instinct and skills; capable of and enjoys learning and research
  • Possesses the spirit of goal-oriented collaboration, with ability to make sound judgements and work independently
  • Able to quickly gain trust and build effective relationships
  • Able to manage multiple projects, producing high-quality deliverables on time
  • Able to research, learn, and apply new skills quickly, think creatively to solve problems, and thrive in ambiguous environments with limited direction on the next steps
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate clearly verbally, as well as via email, bullet point updates, data visuals and slide presentations
