This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) vacancy and will establish an eligibility list which may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur during the active status of the eligibility list. 

Salary Range: PR 183
FLSA: Exempt
Probationary Period: 12 months
Under limited supervision, installs, configures, deploys, monitors and maintains network hardware, devices, software and security systems; installs, configures and maintains virtual machine environment; installs, configures and maintains servers needed to support plant and business operations; and performs related duties as assigned. 
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
A Network Administrator performs advanced journey, technical lead-level network administration functions to ensure the entire Agency infrastructure is reliable and secure. Incumbents install, configure, test, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, upgrade, monitor and evaluate performance of network hardware and software to ensure that they meet availability and performance requirements. Incumbents are expected to use sound judgment when making decisions within established standards.
Employees in this class typically report to the supervisor or Deputy Manager.
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.
Installs, customizes, configures, tests, optimizes and maintains network servers, switches, controllers, routers and other devices and software; monitors performance of servers, routers, switches and security systems; installs, configures and updates firewalls and intrusion protection systems.
Monitors network operations and security system logs and alerts; identifies, isolates, analyzes, troubleshoots and resolves network device and software failures and errors and applications access problems; tests hardware and transmission media; reinstalls and configures software; reboots servers; installs, configures, maintains Wi-Fi access points and controllers and troubleshoots Wi-Fi connection issues; monitors internet traffic.
Trains network and end-user support staff in the administration, maintenance and support of new and existing network applications; provides second- and third-level support; administers, maintains, monitors and supports backup systems servers and software; plans, configures and tests backup configurations and performance; analyzes error messages and resolves problems.
Installs, configures and maintains virtual machine environment; manages virtual servers and work stations for both the Plant Automation Network and the business network; manages remote access infrastructure.
Performs user account administration including adds/moves, changes, updates and deletes; analyzes and resolves third-level user account errors and problems; instructs and assists users in managing and utilizing accounts.
Participates in the administration and maintenance of assigned network software; provides second-tier software support.
Purchases, installs and maintains Agency audio/visual equipment; sets up and operates equipment for training and events.
Develops and maintains accurate and up-to-date network documentation, reports, logs and files.
Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional associations.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in management information systems or computer science, and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, upgrade and performance monitoring of multi-segment networks and servers; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a public agency is preferred. 
LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency's vehicle insurance program.
Certified Network Administrator or Engineer, Security Certified Professional or a related certification is desirable.
 
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Network architectures and theory and principles of network design and integration, including topologies and protocols.
Standard practices and methods of systems/network administration and maintenance.
Principles, practices and techniques for installation, configuration and operation of network systems, hardware and devices.
Methods and techniques for performing connectivity testing and troubleshooting, including uses of diagnostic tools and equipment.
Internet/intranet technologies and design concepts and techniques, including router and firewall configuration.
Systems analysis, design principles and development methodologies and tools.
Network security design principles and practices and related tools and software.
Project management principles, practices, methods and tools.
Agency policies, procedures and practices regarding data security.
ABILITY TO:
Perform complex network administration functions in a multi-platform, multi-segment network environment accurately and efficiently.
Establish priorities and balance responsibilities for multiple activities to ensure timely, high-quality results.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software and connectivity problems.
Ensure systems and network security through the use of advanced security software and protocols.
Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Prepare clear, concise and accurate reports, documentation and other written materials.
Exercise sound independent judgment within policy guidelines.
Work collaboratively as a team member or leader of a small team to ensure project account-ability.
Keep technical skills current to meet continuing network administration responsibilities.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all those encountered in the course of work.
