Commodity Manager – U.S.
Primary FunctionsUnder the direction of the Director Raw Materials Food & Industrial, the Commodity Manager is responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing a corn purchasing strategy for the Argo manufacturing plant that supports the company plan. The strategy will require input from various internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on corn delivery process, price risk and plant capabilities. This position is considered a Subject Matter Expert in the corn origination space and will have frequent interaction with Senior Management Team. Direct involvement with rail carriers and truck suppliers is required. The scope of gross spend for this role is ~ $350 MM. Supporting responsibilities in the corn supply chain for both dent corn and/or NGM waxy corn. This role is designed to be a growth opportunity with increasing responsibilities to be assigned.

Key Deliverables
  • Develop corn supply strategy to achieve or exceed established company targets.
  • Manage corn inventory level with ownership of supplier relationships including daily scheduling.
  • Effectively lead team members or other functioning groups to overcome supply disruptions or quality issues.
  • Negotiate with rail carriers/truck shippers to determine the most competitive/cost effective delivery method.
  • Knowledgeable with current grain marketing patterns and transportation flow.
  • Monitor market trends, negotiate prices, implement cost-saving initiatives without impeding on-time deliveries.
  • Ensure quality standards are achieved. Address quality standards with suppliers to support plant requirements.
  • Assist with strategies to minimize the company’s environmental impact and promote sustainable practices.
  • Collaborate and strategize with team members to create capital projects focusing on supply chain efficiency.
  • Solid understanding and adherence to trade rules and regulations. Adhere to contractual commitments with suppliers.

Knowledge, Skills, And Requirements
  • 10 years’ work experience within the grain industry.
  • 5 years' experience in rail origination/trading demonstrating performance and competency.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Computer skills with proficiency level (i.e. SAP, Office, Teams, Agtech or other grain accounting.)
  • Demonstrated strong analytical capability including the ability to analyze commodity data and formulate conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform well in a team environment.
