Summary: The Instrumentation and Electrical Technician (I&E) is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems and electrical equipment in the plant. The I&E Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection, calibration, repair, testing, adjustment, installation, and removal of all electronic and electrical plant equipment and systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

      • Perform and document maintenance, calibration, installation, fault diagnosis, and repair of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic instruments and systems.
      • Calibrate, troubleshoot and repair plant instrumentation (ie; transmitters, analyzers, control valves, switches, relays, etc.).
      • Inspect, repair, and remove all types of generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and work with electrical systems.
      • Work with a wide variety of instruments, including ph., conductivity, ultrasonic, guided wave radar, mass flow, press transducers, RTD’s, Thermocouples, etc.
      • Proper installation and diagnosis of AC/DC motors and controls, including across the line, soft starters and VFD’s, etc.
      • Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus plant wide.
      • Diagnoses, repairs, and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment. Including various pumps such as centrifugal, positive displacement, diaphragm, etc., gear driven equipment such as rotary screws, augers, conveyors, etc. and heat transfer apparatus such as heat exchangers, evaporators, condensers, etc.
      • Has a thorough working knowledge of process and electrical test equipment, its use, and its care, and can use this equipment for diagnosing and troubleshooting of all electrical systems and instruments.
      • Has a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)and ISA (International Society of Automation) and is capable of reading bill of materials (BOM), blueprints and electrical schematics, ladder diagram and function blocks. Adheres to specifications and technical manuals.
      • Make sure proper energy sources are locked out properly when work is to be performed on all controlled devices. Must know the standard of Tag, Lock Out & Try procedure.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Graduation from an accredited Instrument, Electrical or Industrial Maintenance Technician program and 2 plus years work experience in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable. 5 plus years’ work experience as a technician in a manufacturing environment may be substituted for the above.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
