CAD (Roadway) Designer - Tampa, FL

We are seeking a highly skilled CAD (Roadway) Designer to join our team in Tampa, FL. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and drafting roadway plans using CAD software. The ideal candidate will have experience in highway design and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Position Summary
The main focus of this position is to develop and formulate construction plans and specifications. The CAD Designer will provide support in completing engineering tasks related to design procedures, evaluation of criteria, scope development, and the creation of accurate estimates. It is crucial to compile a variety of plans, including designs for roadways, signage and pavement markings, signalization, lighting, , Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), typical section packages, scopes of work, design exceptions and variations, as well as reports on utility conflicts. This role entails performing intricate engineering and geometric calculations to devise project designs. This encompasses the development of alignment and elevation, integration of horizontal and vertical curves, creation of specialized intersection designs, traffic control plans, profile grades, and other components of roadway design with minimal supervision. The CAD Designer will conduct thorough quality control assessments, permit reviews, and Local Agency Program (LAP) evaluations to ensure adherence to federal and departmental design criteria, policies, and procedures. Additionally, the responsibilities
encompass aiding in the preparation and presentation of design details and concepts during public meetings, workshops with local agencies, and
internal staff gatherings. Another aspect of the role may involve conducting field inspections, evaluations, data collection, and documentation of requests from customers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Performs civil design using knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil3D
  • Works with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/designer.
  • Performs field work as directed by a senior engineer/designer. 
  • Assists with engineering/drafting duties on projects of various complexity.
  • Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.
  • Assists in basic interpretation and verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
  • Constructs models to identify project specifications and meet related needs by performing routing aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.

Qualifications
  • High level of knowledge in highway design concepts, terminologies, design principles, and analytical techniques.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided drafting and design tools and automated office products.
  • Familiarity with roadway design standards, specifications, and criteria established or adopted by the Florida Department of Transportation.
  • Understanding of project engineering and scheduling.
  • Strong skills in planning, organizing, and managing multiple work assignments.
  • Proficient in the engineering process for the production of highway construction plans.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for conveying technical information.
  • Problem-solving abilities in the field of engineering.
  • Application of engineering quantitative techniques in highway design.
Minimum Requirements 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of civil engineering experience using a drafting program.
  • Experience working with Florida state and county infrastructure improvement projects desired.
  • 2-5 years’ experience with AutoCAD/Civil3D experience required.
  • Familiarity with GIS, Microstation Inroads/Geopak, and OpenRoads a plus.
  • Knowledge of job cost, scheduling, safety, and construction concepts preferred.
  •  US Citizen or Legal Resident required. (Visa sponsorship is not available for this position)
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit for an extended period at a computer workstation.
  • Hand and eye coordination adequate for computer data entry.
  • Visually observe and differentiate details and colors of objects.
  • Recognize sound, tone, and pitch; speak and write clearly and effectively. 
  • Adjust to interruptions and changes. 
  • Ability to travel and tour work sites on occasion.
  • When visiting job sites, must be able to work in hot, cold, and noisy work areas.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday with some weekends may be required as needed by the project.
  • The position is full-time and is based on a 40-hour work week.
