Collins Aerospace is currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineering position for the design, development, and test of machinery, electro-mechanical equipment, and integration kits for communication systems on military aircraft and transportable platforms. You will be part of a larger engineering project team and work closely with Systems, Software, Qualification, Manufacturing, Installation, and Integration and Test engineering staff on moderate to complex mechanical systems and components to assure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of a product's lifecycle.

This is an ONSITE position located in Richardson, TX. This position may be eligible for relocation and sign on bonus.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Plan, analyze, design, test, and document mechanical and electro-mechanical hardware of high complexity and contribute to system integration and qualification.
  • Comfortable with clean sheet design.
  • Support definition of mechanical system architecture.
  • Design, model, and analyze mechanical components, machine elements, mechanical assemblies and systems using 3D CAD software.
  • Contribute to the prototyping and testing of mechanical systems including electro-mechanical equipment undergoing qualification testing, including shock and vibration, environmental, electrical, and functional testing.
  • Estimate, track, and report project costs and schedules while managing scope and risks and opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively in a cross-functional team
  • Coach and review the work of lower level professionals
  • Ability to work proactively and be self-directed, requiring limited oversight
  • Some travel is required
Basic Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements.
  • Ability to lead a team of development staff, including tracking schedules and budgets.
  • Must have design and documentation experience on a 3-D modeling toolset.
  • Needs experience in the following:
  • Designing electro-mechanical machines and specifying mechanical hardware (e.g., gear boxes, chains, sprockets, motors, seals, bearings)
  • Mechanisms design and analysis including kinematics, dynamics, loads development, and structural sizing
  • Structural analysis, including a fundamental understanding of strength, stability and fatigue failure mechanisms
  • Strong understanding of commonly used materials and composites and their mechanical/thermal behavior
  • Background in tolerance Analysis (GD&T) and drawing standards including ASME Y14.5 ASME Y14.41
  • Capable of completing complex tolerance stack analyses
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active DoD Security Clearance
  • Proven track record in developing products for DoD applications
  • Ability to quickly acquire technical domain knowledge and contribute to the design/implementation of sophisticated architectural systems.
  • Knowledge of aircraft A-Kit electromechanical design
  • Knowledge of commercial and military electronic packaging form factors, chassis & electromechanical design, and analysis methods.
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing and machining techniques including (but not limited to) additive manufacturing methods
  • Experience with ruggedization techniques for commercial hardware is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound, well-informed decisions
  • 6 years of experience in an engineering role
  • Experience managing small projects is a plus
  • Familiarity with ANSYS (Mechanical/CFD /Fluent) or other mechanical analysis software is a plus.
  • Experience with Solidworks and/or NX 3-D modeling software is a plus.
  • Experience doing design, testing, validating, and certifying unique analytical and computational methods to define aero-thermal fluid products and systems is a plus.
  • Ability to perform engineering analyses, both structural and thermal, is preferred, including fatigue, modal, static, random vibration, transient shock, acoustic analysis.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink is a plus
  • Knowledge of commercial and Mil Standards including RTCA DO-160 or MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-1472, RTCA DO-254
