Job Overview:

• Role: Microbiologist
• Responsibilities: Perform microbiological tests (e.g., culture, PCR, WGS) on clinical specimens for identifying enteric bacteria like Salmonella, E.coli, Shigella, Vibrio, Listeria, and Campylobacter. Document quality control and assurance as per CLIA regulations. Cross-train in other lab areas such as molecular, microbiological, and serological tests. Conduct quality control checks, maintain lab supplies, and assist in epidemiological reporting.
• Job Requirements: In-depth knowledge of microbiology principles and practices. Familiarity with scientific methods and technical equipment. Knowledge of lab safety practices and CLIA regulations. Capable of participating in proficiency testing and QA programs. Excellent communication skills and ability to prepare lab reports.
• Difficulty of Work: Requires accuracy and proficiency in scientific analysis, handling complex variables and unusual specimens. Involves analytical judgment and research on new testing procedures.
• Responsibility: Works independently, with guidance provided only for procedural changes or special projects. Adheres to safety practices and maintains accuracy in reporting.
• Personal Work Relationships: Collaborates with supervisor, health department staff, and external entities. Acts as a laboratory expert and explains lab procedures when necessary.
• Physical Effort and Working Conditions: Uses protective equipment in lab settings. May work in environments with fluctuating temperatures and potentially dangerous specimens. Safety standards are crucial.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
