Company: INEOS Oligomers USA LLC Job title Process Operator Location Chocolate Bayou, Alvin, TX - USA ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND JOB PURPOSE Organizational Context: With LAO manufacturing facilities in the US, Canada and Belgium, INEOS Oligomers is one of the large merchant suppliers of Linear Alpha Olefins (“LAO”). LAO’s are used in a variety of industries, with main markets being comonomers for polyethylene, feedstock for production of lubricants, surfactants, lubricant additives, and paper sizing chemicals, and base stock for drilling fluids. PAO is synthetic lubricant. As part of its growth strategy, INEOS Oligomers is operating a world scale LAO & PAO production facility located on INEOS Olefins & Polymers site in Chocolate Bayou, Alvin, Texas (“Plant”). Purpose of the job: This role is part of the operations team and will report to the Shift Supervisor. It is expected that Process Operator will be responsible for safe and reliable operations of the LAO/PAO facility working with Shift Supervisors, Operations Engineers, the MOC Coordinator, and the Operations Training Specialist. In support of the long-term operation, INEOS Oligomers is looking to hire a Process Operators. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES Primary Responsibilities: The Process Operator will be accountable for team and individual goals associated with all aspects of the safe and optimal operation and control of plant equipment. The Process Operator will be required to troubleshoot control and equipment problems and make sound decisions based on operating guidelines and principles, while working in accordance with INEOS Safe Work Practices. The Process Operator will be expected to apply demonstrated technology, understand process chemistry and make use of innovative leading-edge technology. The Process Operator is expected to maintain all products to the specified quality parameters at all times. The Process Operator will be responsible for execution of the daily business instructions that are provided by the Shift Supervisor with guidance from Operations Engineers and MOC coordinator. The Process Operator participates in team activities related to planning, establishing team goals, setting priorities, budgeting, establishing key performance indicators and measurement indicators. The principal accountabilities for the Process Operator are: • Ensure daily business instruction issued by Shift Supervisor as completed. • As part of daily duties make good operator rounds. • Ensure all products meet the specified quality parameters. • Ensure that all effluent streams meet the specified quality parameters. • Monitor unit operations and troubleshoot process problems. • Make sound decisions based on operating guidelines and principles • Lead safety inspections in area of responsibility, and execute safe work practices • Identification and rectification of unsafe work practice • Knowledge of Safe Work Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, and Special Permits • Complete unit HSE and Process Safety Checks • Work with Maintenance and Engineering for the execution of various maintenance tasks • Work well with others under any situation. • Must participate in the training of new operators • Must qualify and be sufficient in all process areas. Roles & Responsibilities: Principal duties include: • Operates the following types of processes and equipment: DCS systems, HMIs, reactors, cooling tower, pressure flash drums, rotating and reciprocating compressors, pumps, propylene refrigeration system, reactor wash system, distillation towers (including vacuum towers), tank farm, rail car and truck loading, flare system, process waste water, storm sewer system, and furnace dowtherm system, BFW. • Collects samples at various stages in the process and correlates sample analysis with observations of equipment performance and instrument readings. • Maintains logs on readings, production rates, and equipment conditions. • Performs start-ups, shutdowns, and adjusts controls both manually and electronically to regulate flows, temperatures, levels, PM, and pressures of process streams at the desired condition. • Initiates and participates in troubleshooting activities to resolve current problems and to prevent re-occurrences. • Prepares equipment and process for maintenance. • Assists in the development and modification of operating procedures. • Supports and contributes to the implementation of the HSE management system. • Performs some DCS functions. • May have the option of participating in the site emergency response teams including firefighting duties. • Performs some maintenance and preventive maintenance duties. • Maintains good housekeeping practices. • Fulfils team member requirements • Performs other duties as required Normal Operations: Inside Operations: • Monitor recording instruments, flowmeters, panel lights, or other indicators and listen for warning signals, to verify conformity of process conditions. • Monitor instruments to ensure proper production conditions. • Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations, as without supervisory personnel. • Operate LAO chemical processing or systems and equipment. • Control or operate chemical processes or systems of machines, using panelboards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment. • Coordination operations with outside operators. Ensure process is always safe. • Move control settings to make necessary adjustments on equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, or yields. • Record operating data, such as process conditions, test results, or instrument readings. • Record Production, Shift Change Over, and operations concerns & issues operations logbook Outside Operations: • Operation of LAO plant equipment (pumps, compressors, valves, process equipment, forklifts, etc.) • Operate heavy equipment as needed • Regular monitoring of plant conditions via field inspection and computer control system and taking action to maintain stable operations • Perform routine unit operational tasks including sampling and testing • Make routine rounds of designated areas of the plant; make observations in unit for any equipment issues or abnormal conditions that may create hazards or inefficiencies. • Maintain operations logs including equipment performance and instrument readings • Perform routine daily minor maintenance and preventative maintenance activities • Assist with the repair and modification of equipment • Work with plant staff to optimize production and troubleshoot Unit Operations and equipment • Safe isolation and preparation of equipment for operations, maintenance, and project activities • Generate work requests for required maintenance items • Use of PC to access various programs as well as input plant data Logistics and Rail / Truck Loading • Required to manage the tank farm • Sampling of the tank farm, CA management of samples • Moving and Positioning of Rail Cars for LAO • Loading Rail Cars and Tank Trucks for LAO Work Schedule: The Process Operator for LAO Oligomers Operations will work the rotating 12-hour shift schedule in place at the site. Overtime and on call/ call in will be required. Skills & Knowledge Required • Has developed a solid foundation of knowledge regarding operational units, in order to make informed decisions. Is expected to utilize this knowledge during urgent process conditions and emergency situations. • Possesses good listening and communication skills • Has excellent motivational skills • Is focused on providing good customer service • Proven commitment and delivery of SHE compliance • Is able to work in a changing environment • Promotes a positive work environment. Creates a strong morale and spirit, feeling of belonging in the team. • Basic Experience with Windows and Microsoft Word & Excel. • Experience working with DCS board position required. • Required minimum of 5 years' full-time practical experience in a chemical process operations role ADA PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift at least 50lbs, walking, climbing ladders/stairs, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to perform climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and manual operation of various size valves and equipment. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound. Candidates are required to be fully COVID vaccinated.
