Industries of the Blind is Hiring a Manager Purchasing and Logistics Near Greensboro, NC

The Manager of Purchasing and Logistics is responsible for the oversight of both the Purchasing and Logistics Departments. Provide coaching and support to all team members. Ensure the right mix of inventory on-hand to meet production requirements while minimizing carrying cost, deliver cost saving opportunities and oversee pricing negotiations, lead purchasing, ensure inventory control, and manage logistics functions for the Gate City location.

Purchasing
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers, escalate issues and concerns to resolve in a timely manner.
  • Ensure quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transport costs and KPI’s are met.
  • Meet cost, productivity, accuracy, and timeliness targets.
  • Identify cost savings and lead pricing negotiations.
  • Ensure all inventory control and cycle counts are completed on schedule.
  • Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess performance and implement improvements.
  • Review, process and approve purchase orders.
  • Manages other members of the purchasing team.
  • Provide back-up for purchasing team members and actively support business needs as required through completion of purchase orders, cycle counts, or other activities.
  • Selects prospective vendors and negotiates contracts.
  • Analyses purchasing strategy and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Evaluate vendors based on quality, timeliness, and pricing.
  • Schedule delivery of material to meet manufacturing deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Contract team members to meet demands for production.
  • Investigates any non-conformances and provides recommended solutions.
Logistics
  • Plan, schedule and track the shipment of final products according to customer requirements.
  • Ensure all deliveries are tracked and checked for accuracy.
  • Prepare any non-conformances and identify solutions with engineering team.
  • Strategically manage warehouse in compliance with company’s policies and procedures.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend improvements to drive cost savings, efficiency improvements, and/or delivery enhancements.
  • Provide backup for Supervisor.
  • Select carriers for transportation and evaluate timely delivery.
  • Resolve complaints and concerns that are not addressed at the supervisory level.
  • Monitor and manage budgets.
  • Ensure proper processes are followed and adhered to by team members.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Manage, coach and train individuals in Purchasing and Logistics departments.
  • Coordinate with direct reports and other department heads to review all inventory needs and stock inventory levels to meet deadlines.
  • Provide timely feedback to team members to further develop skills.
  • Conduct annual reviews and participate in coaching conversations and write ups.
  • Ensure team members are cross trained in all functions.
  • Manage all safety concerns and ensure all logistics members are forklift certified on an annual basis.
  • Serve as a member of the Safety Committee.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrable ability to lead and manage staff.
  • Willingness and desire to fill in for purchasing and logistics employees as needed to ensure internal and external customers’ needs are fully satisfied.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a group to handle multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to domestic shipping and procurement
  • Ability to work with little supervision and track multiple processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Expertise in inventory management procedures and best practices
  • Strong knowledge in various MRP, ERP, and WMS technology
  • Proven ability to implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing and warehousing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
Education and Experience
  • College Education preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years logistics and purchasing management experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to traverse the production facility
  • Able to lift to 25 lbs.
