Job Description: Manager at Ace Hardware Store

Position Summary:
As a Manager at our Ace Hardware store, you will play a crucial role in maintaining exceptional guest service, driving sales, overseeing operations, and ensuring adherence to company policies and standards. Your leadership skills will be instrumental in managing the retail staff, promoting a positive work environment, and achieving the store's sales performance goals. With a focus on providing outstanding customer service and ensuring the smooth operation of the store, you will be an essential part of our team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Deliver Outstanding Guest Service:
  • Follow the S.A.L.E.S process and mystery shop standards to ensure exceptional customer service.
  • Create a guest-friendly environment by greeting and acknowledging every guest, maintaining a positive attitude, and offering product knowledge and promotions.
2. Supervise Retail Staff:
  • Hire, train, and develop retail staff, setting goals for their growth and success in their roles.
  • Provide performance feedback and recognition for accomplishments.
  • Coordinate overall supervision of retail staff to ensure accurate sales procedures and goal achievement.
3. Manage Store Operations:
  • Regulate retail inventory to minimize shrinkage and maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Oversee the store's "Accounts Receivable" process.
  • Direct shipping, receiving, and inventory flow for the store.
  • Forecast scheduling needs to meet customer demand and create work schedules.
4. Merchandising and Visual Presentation:
  • Delegate daily workload among associates to meet merchandising and visual presentation standards.
5. Safety and Compliance:
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures and act as a safety role model.
6. Knowledge and Ability:
  • Gain a working knowledge and some ability in each area of store operations.
7. Flexibility and Availability:
  • Be willing to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, Saturdays, and holidays, to meet the needs of the business.
8. Reporting and Communication:
  • Report directly to the store owner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required by the owner.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
  • Education/Training: High School degree, some college preferred, with a vast product knowledge of hardware-related products.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of retail management experience (preferred) or similar experience.
  • Skills/Knowledge: Strong leadership and analytical skills, effective communication in all situations, problem-solving and organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using retail computer systems, MS Word, and Excel is a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Ability to communicate with guests and retail staff.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers, handling objects and tools, and the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Ability to climb ladders and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or heavier weights if necessary.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Moderate to high noise level in the work environment.
