GENERAL SUMMARY

  • The ACS III / Shift Lead is the second level position within the Airport Communications Specialist (ACS) series and as such individuals assigned to this level are expected to be able to perform the full range of Airport Communications Specialist duties.
  • The ACS III, based on their advanced knowledge of IND AOC Operations, is expected to mentor and develop their peers while carrying out the daily responsibilities otherwise assigned to the ACS II
  • The ACS III, based on their standing as a APCO Communications Training Officer (CTO), is responsible for assisting the department’s Training Coordinator with the delivery of new and recurrent training
  • The ACS III is responsible for helping to support the achievements of the mission and overall goals of the Indianapolis Airport Authority by helping to ensure that the objectives of the Airport AOC/EOC are attained.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for working harmoniously with co-workers while assisting the AOC Supervisory team in maintaining a safe, orderly and efficient work environment
  • Obey departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Meet IAA standards of conduct and performance
  • Performs the full range of Airport Communications Specialist (ACS II / ACS III) duties during assigned work period
  • In the absence of an AOC Supervisor assumes responsibility as the single point of contact (shift lead) for the AOC and/or EOC
  • In the absence of supervision documents any complaints and/or issues that occur during the shift and forwards to supervision as necessary
  • Under the direction and guidance of the AOC Training Coordinator, trains, coaches and mentors new and existing Communications Specialists
  • In the absence of an AOC Supervisor ensures that proper AOC staffing levels are maintained at all times including periods of unforeseen absences, and during scheduled and unscheduled Airport events
  • At the direction of Training Coordinator provides new and recurrent training in a professional and effective manner

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from high school, completion of a GED, or vocational school is required. A combination of education and experience that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position is preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience in airport operations, Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or call center operations. A sound knowledge of Airport Operations Center (AOC) operations and security is a must.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain and an Airport SIDA badge
  • Ability to obtain and maintain APCO Communications Training Officer (CTO) Certification

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to walk, sit, use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, balance, stop, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by the position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver’s license. Use of a computer and other personal assistance devices (tablets or mobile phone) are a must for this position.
  • Work environment: This position is performed within an office environment approximately 80-90% of the time. The other 10-20% the employee could be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. With multiple worksites the noise level varies from the office environment and the outside environment. The incumbent in this position is expected to work independently and as part of the team.

Additional Physical Requirements of this position:

Due to the physical construction of the Communications console, it is necessary for employees to have movement within the work space. The area of mobility would include a general space of approximately 10-12 feet in length (side to side) and 8-10 feet in width (forward and backward). This would be accomplished by utilizing a provided chair with enough mobility to accomplish this requirement.
