Department Information
The Hudson & Holland Scholars Program (HHSP) within the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a scholarship and academic support program for high-achieving underrepresented minorities. HHSP is the largest merit-based scholarship program at Indiana University with over 2,400 students currently enrolled.
The program provides a scholarship as well as a variety of support services to address the holistic needs of student participants in the program. Hudson & Holland Scholars are some of the most scholastically successful students at IU, and their presence and contributions deeply enrich the campus learning environment.

Job Summary
The person in this position provides administrative and process leadership in design, implementation, and evaluation of diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion programs to ensure organizational goals and objectives are met. Performs duties necessary for diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion program operations - including recruitment, advising and tracking, developing reports and budgets, and developing the program's informational material. Programs can focus on a variety of audiences to create, align, and optimize diversity and inclusion goals, strategies, and mindsets across the organization.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Oversees and actively engages in the implementation of academic, retention, social, wellness, and other assorted programs and initiatives designed to enhance and reinforce scholars academic engagement and experiential learning capacity.
  • Works with a wide range of constituents to support the success and retention of Hudson & Holland Scholars.
  • Provides day-to-day operational management & holistic supervision of professional and paraprofessional Academic Engagement & Student Success staff within HHSP.
  • Projects initiative outcomes at the program, department/division, or campus level.
  • Interfaces directly with students by providing active, present, hospitable and enthusiastic support.
  • Collaborates with staff in HHSP as well as academic and campus partners on shared student programming goals.
  • Manages a holistic academic advising caseload of special scholar populations including but not limited to transfer students, Dual & Triple OVPDEI Academic Program Scholars, and general walk-in scholars.
  • Interprets IU-Bloomington policies and procedures regarding major selection, course sequencing, and degree requirements and suggests appropriate career information resources.
  • Assists in planning academic programs; recommends strategies, courses, and priorities; and provides encouragement to students and suggests alternative study procedures.
  • Serves as a liaison to the IUB Directors of Advising and representing Hudson & Holland as needed.
  • Works with internal and external constituents as determined appropriate by the Director.
  • Researches, recommends, or creates best practices for unit or campus initiatives, projects, processes, or programs and provides guidance to staff with advising caseloads.
  • Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student programs against projected outcomes.
  • Serves on committees and performs student programming research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
  • Plans and coordinates communications for student programming initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion.
  • Prepares reports to track attendance, assess feedback and develop budgets for events and programs.
  • Oversee and actively participate in the execution of Signature HHSP Programs such as Senior Celebration, Orientation & Induction, and other key events.
  • Plans, implements, and develops the program's activities to meet its goals and mission.
General Responsibilities
  • Develops, designs, and maintains diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion program objectives and strategy to support organizational goals.
  • Identifies audiences and areas for improvement as related to diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion within the department or unit.
  • Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on diversity-related topics, such as cultural understanding, implicit bias, recruitment and retention strategies, inclusive terminology, and team dynamics, to a variety of audiences.
  • Researches and maintains up-to-date on diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion programming best practices. Implements changes based on research, as necessary.
  • Recruits, trains, directs, schedules, and evaluates faculty and staff partners, students and volunteers. Mentors, serve as a resource and provides guidance to team staff members as needed.
  • May serve on various committees and provide input on strategic direction for the department or unit.
  • Arranges staff travel, accommodations, and research activities as necessary.

EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree in related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • 5 years in diversity, equity, and inclusion programming or related field
Preferred
  • 3 years in a university setting and/or 1 year of academic advising experience

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This role requires occasional evening and week-end work.

$52,000 - $57,000 annually
