IMAN Community Engagement Coordinator

Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and adaptable individual to join our team to work towards increased community engagement and organizing. The ideal candidate for this role will have a passion for community organizing, and for IMAN’s mission and vision. The Community Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for mobilizing community members to work collectively on various advocacy and political engagement issues. This vital role will focus on grassroots activism to foster community engagement and advocacy efforts.

Salary: $50,000

Key Responsibilities

• Community Outreach and Engagement:
• Identify, develop, and maintain strong relationships with diverse community members, organizations, and stakeholders.
• Execute outreach programs to promote awareness and participation in IMAN’s initiatives. Could include candidate forums, fundraising events, GOTV phone banking, voter registration drives, or door knocking efforts, etc.
• Event Coordination:
• Organize and coordinate community events, workshops, and activities like the ones stated above.
• Ensure seamless execution of events to maximize community involvement.
• Communication and Advocacy:
• Serve as a liaison between the organization and the community, conveying key messages and advocating for our mission.
• Utilize various communication channels to share updates, success stories, and opportunities for involvement.
• Form relationships with students, teachers, and school administrations in order for IMAN to be a resource to K-12 and universities when advocacy efforts and initiatives are needed.
• Volunteer Management:
• Identify, train, and mentor community leaders and volunteers to take active roles in organizing and advocating for their community. Support their continued development.
• Empower community members to become advocates for change by providing them with the knowledge and tools to make a difference.
• Foster a positive and collaborative volunteer environment.
• Project Management:
• Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community projects.
• Track milestones, outcomes, and keep meticulous records of all.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in community organizing, event planning, or related fields.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Passion for social justice and the development and empowerment of the Muslim community.
• Organized and detail-oriented.
• Knowledge of local and national social and political issues.
• Flexibility and adaptability to work irregular hours when needed.
• Proficiency in using technology and social media for outreach and communication.

Working Conditions

The IMAN Community Engagement Coordinator will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, splitting their time between the office, community meetings, and outreach activities. The role may involve irregular hours and travel within the community. Some remote work and vital outreach may be required, especially in response to specific circumstances. This position will report directly to the Executive Director.
