Indiana Electric Cooperatives is Hiring a Youth and Education Specialist Near Indianapolis, IN

As the youth and education specialist, you will be responsible for managing IEC’s youth programs and community youth partnerships while working to develop new youth programs that support the cooperative mission. This position will assist with aspects of education and training including e-learning, data analysis, creating and distributing training materials, and follow-up with members. This position will also support careers programs and promote the variety of electric cooperative careers throughout Indiana.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead youth programs including Youth Tour, Cooperative Calendar of Student Art Contest, Page Day and Managers’ Association Scholarship and support Camp Kilowatt
    • Serve as Youth Tour Director
      • Responsibilities include trip attendance, planning and coordination; program and resource development; student recruitment; budgeting, invoicing/billing and contracting; student supervision; chaperone management and promotion
      • Oversee Youth Leadership Council (YLC) applications, selection and communication
      • Manage communications with National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (NRECA) regarding Youth Tour and YLC programs
      • Oversee applications, student selection and communication with member cooperatives, parents and students
      • Lead Intent-to-Participate process including updating forms, communicating with member cooperatives and record keeping
    • Support Camp Kilowatt
      • Attend camp committee meetings and camp
      • Assist with applications, communication, planning and event logistics
      • Lead Intent-to-Participate process including updating forms, communicating with member cooperatives and record keeping
    • Lead Page Day program with Indiana Senate
      • Responsibilities include application process, marketing and promotion to member cooperatives, event logistics, relationships with Senate staff and day of coordination and attendance
    • Coordinate Cooperative Calendar of Student Art
      • Responsibilities include making edits to contest promotion materials, intake and organization of art submissions and judging
    • Manager’s Association Scholarship
      • Responsibilities include updating application and marketing materials and serving as liaison between IEC and the scholarship committee
  • Manage youth programs inbox
  • Judge Youth, Power and Hope contest entries
  • Oversee Plug into Youth booklet content creation and updates
  • Present on youth programs at New Employee Orientation sessions and serve as backup presenter for careers presentation
  • Create age-appropriate cooperative-related curriculum and activities promoting the cooperative career story
  • Attend career fairs when needed
  • Create, organize and assemble course materials and distribute to training class participants
  • Track attendance and work with participants to ensure they have the information they need pre, during and post training, education and youth events.
  • Coordinate program invoicing with accounting.
  • Assist with leadership development and team-building programs
  • Summarize data, observations and key insights from training, education and youth programs and create action plans for participants and member cooperatives
  • Develop and track metrics for various programs and strategies
  • Support manager and colleagues in designing, planning and implementing on-site, virtual, and e-learning training programs for internal employees and external members

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an equivalent of the following education and/or experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree or vocational training/education in training and development, organizational development, education, or related major preferred
  • Experience in leading and coordinating youth programs and events
  • Experience with facilitating and training preferred
  • Valid driver's license
