The Medical Director will oversee the program design involving medical services – criteria for patient intake, required components of ongoing patient evaluation, dosing practices, medication policies, cardiac risk policies, policies on drug screens showing illicit substances, treatment interventions, and management of high-risk patients. These policies and practices will be managed to maximize patient safety, patient confidentiality and positive treatment outcomes.
Responsibilities
1. Write admission orders and submit medication orders, either in-person or via phone, and develop medically managed detoxification protocol for each client as appropriate within 24 hours of intake.
2. Manage diagnosis codes following initial History & Physical Assessment based on preliminary diagnosis.
3. Ensure the Initial History & Physical Assessment are completed.
4. Conduct medication management for clients throughout their stabilization/treatment residential period, prescribing medications as necessary within 24 hours of intake either in-person or via phone order.
5. Provide medical/psychiatric direction and ongoing consultations with clients: conduct follow-up assessments to maintain proper and appropriate care.
6. Record assessments, medication orders, physician progress notes, and all other applicable documentation in the EMR system.
7. Initiate consultations with other physicians, when necessary, to assure safe and generally accepted standards of care for clients with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
8. Be available and responsive during emergency situations as deemed necessary by CEO.
9. Facilitate discharging duties as they relate to medical protocols and document concise discharge summary within the EMR system.
10. Provide other services as necessary to ensure that the facility is run in an efficient and prudent manner, providing clients with quality care and assuring that the facility confirms to all appropriate licensing and accreditation requirements.
11. Maintain required training and continuing education.
12. Maintain standards of ethics.
13. Comply with all policies and procedures for DMHA and JCAHO, state laws and the facility.
14. Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability, responding positivity to changing situations in the work setting.
15. Demonstrates objectivity and maturity under stress.
16. Supervises nursing staff
17. Other duties assigned by management.
Education
Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Doctorate Degree recognized by the State of Indiana Medical Licensing Board. Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrist.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years in evaluating and/or treating persons suffering from mental illness and/or substance abuse with prior supervisory experience.
Licensure/Certification
Licensed Medical Doctor/Psychiatrist in the state of Indiana
Maintains current licensure per state requirements.
Knowledge and training required at time of hire
Knowledge of the Principles and Practices of the discipline. Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards. Demonstrates Proficiency in Communication & Written skills. Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes Regarding Client Confidentiality Laws. Knowledge of Drug-Free Workplace Policies.
