Department: Crisis Support Services
Reports To: Clinical and Crisis Supports Services Director
SummaryThe Behavior Specialist participates on the Mobile Crisis Teams and Crisis Support Homes and provides the directives to engage and diffuse crisis situations. To provide behavior training and consultation to individuals, managers, and directors to enhance the success of the individual receiving services, work with individual in the facilities and homes and develop interventions to increase progress toward their goals and assist the Crisis Support Services department in improving/enhancing the quality of life for individuals with behavioral difficulties.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conduct community based initial assessment of individuals with developmental disabilities in crisis, provide interventions, and formulate disposition;
  • On call for crisis intervention as the need arises or arranges for such coverage through GCSS Crisis Response services;
  • Provides follow up intensive case management for individuals and families in crisis to build competencies of the system of care;
  • Overseeing the services, supports, care and treatment provided to individuals;
  • Supervising the formulation of the individual service plan or individual recovery plan;
  • Conducting diagnostic, behavioral, functional and educational assessments;
  • Implementing assessment, care and treatment activities as defined in professional practice acts;
  • Supervising high intensity services such as screening or evaluation, assessment, partial hospitalization, and ambulatory or residential crisis services;
  • Implementing interventions to persons in crisis Develops and implements behavioral objectives;
  • Observe individuals in their environment, analyze existing data and conduct assessments to increase individual success
  • Models implementation of behavior plans/strategies in the individuals environment;
  • Participates in the multi-disciplinary process;
  • Conducts in-service training on related topics with professionals and paraprofessionals;
  • Ensures that needed documentation is maintained;
  • Prepares and submits reports within designated time frames;
  • Analyzes and interprets data to be used for improving maladaptive behaviors;
  • Develops and implements functional behavioral assessments;
  • Provides hands-on behavioral training and observations as needed;
  • Attends staff, professional and inter-agency meetings;
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in order to provide consultation as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education/ExperiencePossess a minimum of a Masters degree in psychology, behavior analysis, education, social work or a related field AND
Possess specialized training and education in behavior analysis and positive behavioral supports for people with developmental disabilities by provision of evidence of a minimum of thirty-five (35) hours of training and education in behavior analysis and behavioral supports for individuals with developmental disabilities, which may include college transcripts and/or copies of training certificates or evidence of national certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst through documentation of a certificate from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board AND
Have at least two years experience in behavioral supports evaluation and services for people with developmental disabilities
Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
