SUMMARY

Under the coordination of the Laboratory Manager / Senior Embryologist this position will be responsible for assisting the Lab Techs and Embryologists in the day-to-day activities of all ICSI lab procedures, including, semen preparation, embryo culture, cryopreservation, and preparation for ICSI.

This position will be expected to contribute both individually, and as a team member, providing support to all team members and ensuring responsibilities are

completed within production timelines.

INDIVIDUAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare workspace and equipment for accurate assessment and safe manipulation of the oocytes, semen, and embryos.
• Coordinate to ensure that all materials and supplies are present to conduct the routine ICSI procedures based on production forecasts.
• Assist in the calibration and maintenance of key lab equipment such as incubators, lab hoods, centrifuge, nitrogen tanks and microscopes.
• Assist in preparation of materials (ICSI culture dishes, ICSI media and plates, oocyte maturation tubes, and embryo media)
• Assist the loading of the equine embryos for embryo transfer.
• Assist with all aspects of vitrification.
• Responsible for Semen and embryo inventory.
• Type and send Production Reports via email.
• Follow established safety regulations.
• Collect Oocytes, semen and deliver embryos to clients when necessary.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Biology, Animal Science, or related field preferred.
• Technical and scientific knowledge of IVF / ICSI and embryology preferred.
• Experience in a laboratory or equivalent production environment preferred.
• Previous experience working for a company in the biotechnology and / or agriculture sector preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel and Outlook) beneficial.

IMPORTANT SKILLS

• Exceptional follow-through consistently demonstrating ability to organize and prioritize work for timely completion.
• Excellent eye-hand coordination, with the visual ability to correctly identify and distinguish objects of various size, color and depth perception near and far away.
• Ability to follow detailed safety protocols as required during daily exposure to needles or other sharp objects, as well as, bodily fluids of mares and stallions.
• Ability to sit up to six (6) hours, utilizing hands and fingers to complete repetitive motions.
• Demonstration of a depth of knowledge of SOPS, application of principles, concepts, production practices and standards.
• Solves routine problems of moderate scope and complexity by following established policies and SOPS referring to supervisor for guidance.
• Team-centric, detail-orientated, and highly organized.
• Solution-driven and determined to achieve production goals.
• Ability to work under close supervision from Senior Embryo and Embryo Techs.
