Overview

We are searching for an experienced and detail-oriented Unit Clerk to support an assigned nursing unit. Our facility specializes in long-term care and short term stay services. We are dedicated to providing exemplary customer service and top-quality care. 

Position Summary

The Unit Clerk has a basic knowledge of the routine of the long term care facility and is responsible for all tasks assigned. Is able to perform tasks on unit without immediate supervision. Assists unit nurse in coordinating and monitoring completion of required documentation and related tasks.

General Purpose

The general purpose of the position is to coordinate activities on the unit related to resident care and documentation of the care residents receive under the direction of the team manager and charge nurse. Is responsible for maintaining the nursing station, performing clerical and receptionist duties, requisition supplies, equipment and services from other departments. Transcribes physician orders. Completes and verifies assigned duties under the direction of team Manager or charge Nurse. Does related work as required.

Position Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining a satisfactory physical environment at the nurses’ station;
  • Maintains a clear and accurate line of communication with all departments;
  • Completes lab requests as ordered by physician and notifies staff of request and verifies return of lab work ordered;
  • Answers telephone, using appropriate communication skills;
  • Assists with the dining program as designated by team manager;
  • Transcribes physicians' orders for drugs and narcotics and sends to pharmacy after verification by charge nurse;
  • Orders and maintains supplies on the unit;
  • Maintains consultations and clinic visits, as needed;
  • Assists residents to in-house appointments;
  • Greets residents, families, visitors; gives directions and assistance;
  • Prepares and/or maintains and files a variety of records according to procedure;
  • At team manager/charge nurse's discretion, requests services such as Chaplain and Social Services for residents by placing calls to appropriate area;
  • Sends residents’ clothing to the laundry for labeling; adds to and deletes items on clothing form according to procedure;
  • Assists with new admissions including chart, forms, and clothing;
  • Maintains the current and partial medical records according to facility procedures including closing and opening charts as directed by the Health Information Department;
  • Pulls charts and sees that only authorized persons have access to residents’ records;
  • Activates paging system for routine calls and emergencies, as directed;
  • Prepares diet, nourishment and juice lists and sends to Dietary Department;
  • May escort in an emergency and transport when needed;
