Position Location:Lake Charles, LA
Genneral Summary Of DutiesAdministers a variety of diagnostic audiological exams, counsels patients, families and physicians regarding test results, and reviews options that best meet their hearing healthcare needs. Performs audiological services in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hearing disorders for people of all ages. Evaluates, orders, and dispenses hearing aids.
Essential Functions
- Assesses auditory function in normal hearing and hearing-impaired patients of all ages.
- Communicates educational, medical, and diagnostic procedural information to the patient and/or patient's family in a clear and concise manner.
- Conducts comprehensive diagnostic audiological evaluations and otoacoustic emissions.
- Assesses candidacy of patients with hearing loss for hearing aids and provides appropriate rehabilitation options to ensure the best possible outcome.
- Fits and calibrates hearing aids for patients.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Master's degree in Audiology or a Doctor of Audiology Doctorate (Au.D.)
- Current dispensing Audiology license in the State of Louisiana or eligible for licensure in Louisiana.
- 1 year of prior experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationship with patients, medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to identify, test, diagnose and manage hearing disorders in all populations.
- Ability to effectively counsel patients regarding hearing healthcare and possible treatment/management options.
- Ability to perform otoscopy, make ear impressions and swim molds, and make recommendations for hearing protection devices.
- Must possess working knowledge of hearing loss prevention methods to educate the public properly.
- Office setting.
- Frequent interruptions, which requires being able to handle a fast-paced work environment during entire time at work.
- Must be able to prioritize multiple projects.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and exercise professionalism when interacting with staff, managers, supervisors, physicians, external customers, etc.
- Requires continuous standing, bending, stretching, sitting, walking, and stooping while on duty.
- May be required to lift 50-100 pounds.
- Exposure to possible hazardous materials/conditions and infectious diseases.
