Education

Required High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Additional degrees business training experienceand / or certifications may be combined to meet minimumqualifications.

WorkExperience

Preferred 2 yearsin Sterile processing experience

Certifications

Required Certification through one of thefollowing :

• Certified RegisteredCentral Service Technician (CRCST)International AssociationHealthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)
• Certified Sterile Processing DepartmentTechnician (CSPDT) Certification Board for Sterile Processing andDistribution(CBSPD)
• Certified FlexibleEndoscope Reprocessor (CFER) CBSPD
• ORCertification in Surgical Technology with successful certificationof internal sterile processing training course within first sixmonths from hire

Knowledge Skills and Abilities(KSAs)

• Must havecomputer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrievalof patient information. Must be proficient with Windowsstyleapplications and keyboard.
• Effective verbaland written communication skills and the ability to presentinformation clearly and professionally to varying levels ofindividuals throughout the patient care process.

Job Duties

• Performs general and specialized instrumentcare duties.
• Provides supplies as needed forsurgical procedures.
• Disassembles and cleanscritical reusable medical equipment in accordance withManufacturers Instructions For Use (MIFU).
• Inspects packages and reassembles surgical instrumentsand trays according to established priority.
• Practices High Level Disinfection PreVaccuumSterilization Gravity Displacement Sterilization and HydrogenPeroxide Plasma Sterilization techniques in accordance withMIFUs.
• Practices record keeping and documentcontrol as defined in Standard Operating Procedures policies andrecommendations from regulatory bodies.
• Adaptsbehavior to the specific patient population including but notlimited to : respect for privacy method of introduction to thepatient adapting explanation of services or procedures to beperformed requesting permissions and communicationstyle.
• Other related duties as required.

Physical and EnvironmentalDemands

The physical demandsdescribed here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of thisjob.

Medium Work Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionallyand / or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and / or greater thannegligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Constantly : activity or condition exists 2 / 3 or more of the time)to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess ofthose for Sedentary Work.

Even though the weight lifted may be onlya negligible amount a job should be rated Light Work : (1) when itrequires walking or standing to a significant degree;

or (2) whenit requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and / orpulling of arm or leg controls; and / or (3) when the job requiresworking at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushingand / or pulling of materials even though the weight of thosematerials is negligible.

NOTE : The constant stress and strain ofmaintaining a production rate pace especially in an industrialsetting can be and is physically demanding of a worker even thoughthe amount of force exerted is negligible.

Mechanical lifting devices (carts dollies etc.) or teamlifts should be utilized.

Must be able to stoopbend reach and grab with arms and hands manual dexterity.

Must be able to stand for prolonged periods oftime.

Must be able to work a flexible workschedule (e.g. 24 / 7 weekend holiday on callavailability).

Must be able to travel throughoutand between facilities.

Duties performedroutinely require exposure to blood body fluid andtissue.

The incumbent works in a patient carearea; works in an area where patients enter; works directly withpatients; and / or works with specimens that could containcommunicable diseases.

There may be an occupational risk forexposure to communicable diseases.

Because theincumbent works within a healthcare setting there may beoccupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications orhazardous waste within the environment through receipt transportstorage preparation dispensing administration cleaning and / ordisposal of contaminated waste.

The risk level of exposure mayincrease depending on the essential job duties of therole.
