Position Title: Clinical Veterinarian - Pharmacokinetics Team
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Clinical Veterinarian to join our dynamic Pharmacokinetics team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional medical and surgical care to laboratory animals, overseeing their clinical needs, and supporting our research endeavors.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Animal Care and Clinical Management:- Ensure excellent clinical care for all animals in the vivarium, including those not currently involved in studies.
- Conduct physical examinations, ophthalmic assessments, and other necessary exams on laboratory animals.
- Provide medical and surgical care, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare.
- Report and address any concerns related to animal care promptly.
- Contribute to the development of clinical training programs for veterinary and research staff.
2. Research Support and Study Execution:- Develop and execute research studies to enhance our research capabilities.
- Act as a Study Director for surgical procedures, post-operative care, and diagnostic imaging, as needed.
- Collaborate with scientific staff and technicians, providing expertise on animal health, biology, physiology, and research methodologies.
- Offer clinical and technical support to internal researchers and external clients.
- Contribute to the development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with regulations, client expectations, and industry standards.
- Assist in the implementation and management of health monitoring and genetic management programs.
- Provide anesthesia, surgical, and analgesic expertise to support protocol development.
3. Compliance and Quality Assurance:- Support activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), including protocol review, program review, and facility inspections.
- Ensure facility compliance with applicable regulations, guidelines, and standards (e.g., USDA, FDA, AAALAC).
- Participate in internal and external inspections and quality assurance audits.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a high standard of animal care and use within the organization.
4. Leadership and Development:- Provide guidance and direction to junior employees, scheduling activities and fostering their professional growth.
- Deliver clinical and technical training to veterinary staff, incorporating new and best practices.
Requirements:
- Ability to work independently and fulfill responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in providing veterinary care and interpreting diagnostic test results.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, provide comprehensive coverage, and participate in on-call rotations.
- Veterinary medicine degree (DVM) from a US accredited veterinary program.
- Additional education in laboratory animal research (M.S. or Ph.D.) is desirable.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
- Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to practice in the work state highly desired.
- USDA accreditation or application submitted within 3 months of hire.
- ACLAM eligibility or accreditation is highly desired.
- California veterinary licensure required within 60 to 90 days of hire.
