Boiler Operator

Position Summary

The boiler operator monitors the boilers of our operations to ensure that the plant has sufficient power for the processing effort of raw ingredients. Much of the focus will be on maintaining consistent power generation for the facility. An operator will typically work in a revolving shift fashion.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities 

Energy Center Operators will work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.

  1. Ensure that process is operated in a safe, timely, and cost effective manner.
  2. Communicate regularly with all operators, both individually and as a group, to ensure consistent operation among the shifts.
  3. Follow all plant policies and procedures. 
  4. Ensure that the plant is clean and organized.
  5. Help Maintain and update operating procedures and training manuals for process operations. 

Help Monitor and control plant operations.

  1. Work with plant DCS & PLC control systems.
  2. Responsible for taking daily logs on all plant equipment. 
  3. Work with Boilers, Dryers, Water treatment and auxiliary equipment.
  4. Follow instructed Standard Operating Procedures and parameters for Boilers, Dryers, Water treatment, and Auxiliary equipment. 
  5. Field monitor equipment and help troubleshoot plant operation issues.
  6. Assist with the Maintenance and cleanliness of plant process areas and plant equipment. 
  7. The boiler operator will also help with the grain handling / shipping and receiving areas of the plant. 

Participates in Quality Assurance program.

  1. Communicate directly with QA lab to ensure effective participation in the implementation of QA policies and procedures for the energy center.
  2. Sample and test process streams as required by the QA program and procedures.
  3. Maintain QA records.
  4. Understand and interpret QA results and take appropriate action when required.

Participates in Plant Maintenance program.

  1. Communicate directly with the maintenance department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas.
  2. Perform preventative maintenance activities as required.
  3. Assist maintenance technicians in performing maintenance and repairs.
  4. Assist with diagnosing and trouble-shooting maintenance related issues.

Participates in safety, health and environmental programs.

  1. Be familiar and understand city, county, state and federal regulations relating to process operations. Work in a manner to ensure that these regulations are met at all times.
  2. Participate in plant safety program and follow all procedures. 

Other.

  1. Participate in programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness.
  2. Monitor use and inventories of process chemicals.
  3. Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  1. Must hold a State of Minnesota 1st Class B Boiler Engineer license or higher.
  2. Computer skills: basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products; Word, Excel, Power Point
  3. Must have the ability to work effectively with computerized maintenance management system.
  4. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  5. Time management skills.
  6. Preferred minimum degree from a two year collage or a Technical/vocational school, military background or 3 years work experience.
  7. Working environment:
  8. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts
  9. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions; must be able to climb ladders and to work in high, precarious places; and outdoor weather conditions. Boiler Operator must be able to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
  10. The employee may be occasionally exposed to high noise environments.
