Imogen Roche Foundation, Inc. is Hiring an After School Instructor - Cooking Near New York, NY

Description

We are seeking a part-time teacher to lead fun and engaging cooking workshops with groups of elementary school students on weekdays after school. In these workshops, children explore a variety of cuisines, build kitchen skills, expand their palates, and develop confidence and independence. Every class session ends with a family-style meal, prepared by the students, through which they learn how to be active participants at the table, in the kitchen, in their families, in their communities, and in the world.

Instructors are the educators (Teachers, Coaches, Teaching Artists, etc.), who give instruction and leadership in specialized activities in after-school programs. These “club” activities can be artistic, athletic, academic, or recreational in nature. Activity Specialists are school teachers, experts in specific fields of study/endeavor, or individuals with comparable qualifications.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implements course curriculum, and assists with its development
  • Works with teaching assistant to create lesson plans in accordance with course curriculum
  • Requests supplies from Site Supervisor well in advance of class sessions
  • Leads classes with school-age children 
  • Supervises children during transitions
  • Supervises teaching assistants
  • Communicates regularly with Site Supervisor and/or Director about student progress
  • Plans, coordinates, and oversees culminating events at the end of each cycle

Requirements

  • Subject-matter expertise in a field consistent with the subject taught
  • Patient, kind and friendly
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage and correct conduct and performance of adults and children
  • Able to manage and give priority to multiple tasks. Exhibits creativity and innovativeness working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to use own initiative, sound judgment, tact and diplomacy.
  • University degree (preferred)
