Position Summary

The Shop Supervisor directs and coordinates activities of production department(s) in processing materials or manufacturing products in industrial organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This is a supervisory position.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Work with maintenance to ensure all machines are operational.
  • Work with all departments to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to Production Superintendent for action.
  • Works closely with employees to resolve all tooling and manufacturing issues.
  • Order tooling when necessary. 
  • Metal Fabrication Environment a plus

Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • Relatable B.A./B.S is a bonus
  • 5 to 7 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Metal fabrication experience preferred.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate (office/cubicle environment with computers, fax machines and printers operating) to loud (manufacturing environment with large machinery operating).
