Scope

This is a non-exempt position in which a person performs routine tasks as directed by the Construction Manager. As a first level trainee work is checked by others in process and upon completion.

The Construction Project Manager may assign the technician to a construction project to serve as a construction observer to make field measurements, documentation entries and read & interpret plans.

Principal Responsibilities

• Basic field inspection, testing and documentation
• Duties may also include on site or laboratory testing of soils, concrete and hot mix asphalt
• Attend training to achieve various certifications
• Operate company vehicles
• Maintain equipment and vehicles
• Observe safety and security procedures
• Must be able to work as part of a team
• Must always maintain professional conduct
• All other duties as assigned

Required Skills / Abilities :

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
• Ability to write simple correspondence
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to read a tape measure in both fractions and tenths
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Entry-level position; requires 0 to 2 years related field experience
• Valid driver's license required with ability to be insured by IMEG carrier

Physical Requirements :

• Regularly lift and / or move up to 50 pounds over rugged and uneven terrain
• Frequently lift and / or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds
• Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear.
• Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Occasionally required to sit
