IMC Companies is Hiring a Driver Trainer Near Tracy, CA

Position Overview: The Pacific Region Driver Instructor works with cross-functional teams to enhance the existing Driver Training Program, identify best practice, and improve processes. This role also promotes and executes safety practices to ensure regulatory compliance and safe working conditions for all employees. Regularly uses own discretion and judgement in making independent decisions. 

The Driver Instructor reports to the Director of Safety and Risk Management.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead training sessions, safety meetings, and draft safety-related correspondence
  • Train Drivers on company procedures, port operations, and function-specific tasks that increase operational proficiency to improve driver productivity and safety
  • Train Drivers on OEM equipment differences and in-cab technology; create training and troubleshoot issues as needed
  • Support new Drivers throughout their onboarding; serve as their primary point of contact 
  • Conduct road test for new applicants consistent with company standards
  • Promote and encourage safe driving by coaching poor driving behaviors triggered by Samsara dash cameras
  • Coach and provide constructive feedback to Drivers, and make recommendations to management on driver ability to perform job functions
  • Prepare and execute Performance Improvement Plan for high-risk Drivers and report progress to Director of Safety
  • Manage and maintain compliance records, including driver logs and equipment inspections
  • Ability to make independent decisions based on IMC Safety Guidelines and SOPs
  • Assign and track training completion of reoccurring, monthly, and post-incident training
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and complete reports as needed
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence by identifying and implementing process improvements where appropriate
  • Conduct all business in a highly ethical manner, exhibiting behavior, practices, and standards that uphold IMC core values
  • Represent IMC at trade conferences and association meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • 5 years of port experience preferred
  • Valid CDL – Class A
  • Safe driving record
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identity Card (TWIC)
  • Valid Hazardous Materials Endorsement required or must obtain within first 6 months of starting position
  • Expert knowledge of Samsara and Power Direct
  • Equipment maintenance and repair knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for engaging people at all levels
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Some travel may be required

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
