Illinois Wesleyan University seeks a full-time Grants Officer. Reporting to the Provost, this position will anchor university-wide efforts to maximize its external funding resources in alignment with university priorities; involved in pre-award, post-award, and all related activities related to grant seeking and award management. This is a full-time, 12 month position. While the role is intended to be primarily on-site, we recognize the value of flexibility and are open to considering a hybrid work arrangement for the right candidate, subject to operational need. Responsibilities:

  • Prospecting for funding opportunities to support both individual research projects as well as broader, departmental/divisional/institutional initiatives
  • Working closely with administrators, faculty, and staff to maintain focus and forward momentum in the proposal development and writing process to meet submission deadlines
  • Collaborating with principal investigators/program directors (PIs/PDs) to build budgets that are compliant with funder and institutional policies and guidelines
  • Supporting proposal development by securing institutional data needed to support the application
  • Working with principal investigators and program directors to ensure compliance with external guidelines and regulations
  • Participate as an ex officio member of the Research Advisory Committee and the Faculty Development Committee. In addition, will provide insights on appropriate programming in the Thorpe Center for Faculty Development to advance a grant-seeking culture among our faculty.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s required; Master’s preferred
  • 3 years related experience; proposal writing and grant administration
  • Strong experience interacting (pre-award, submission, and post-award) with federal and private funders such as NSF, NIH, DoEd, NEH, NEA, HHMI, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in ensuring post-award compliance for project outcomes and budget expenditures
  • Familiarity with non-profit and fund accounting, FASB, GAAP, government grants, external audits, and single audit experience preferred

Salary $62-$68k, based on experience
