The person in this job performs a variety of clerical tasks to ensure consistent assistance to our faculty, students, and other constituents. These duties and responsibilities fall into three primary categories; operational duties, and faculty support duties, especially related to History Education. The job has telephone and face-to-face contact with faculty, students, university staff, and the general public. It is expected that the person in this job conducts themselves in a professional manner at all times and presents a pleasant, courteous, and helpful face to all visitors realizing that s/he is the "front door" to the department.
1. High School diploma or GED
2. Work experience in an office setting or customer service
1. Associates degree (60 semester hours) or more
2. work experience performing office/clerical activities, including use of computer systems and printers/copiers
3. Knowledge of computer programs like Microsoft Office, Word, Excel
4. Social Media skills
5. Communication/phone/email skills
6. Problem solving; locating resources through internet
7. Knowledge of office and university procedures.
20-28 hours per week, typically between the hours of 8:00-4:30 Monday through Thursday through the end of the May
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Remain at a workstation for extended periods
2. Move about in various locations across campus as needed to complete day-to-day work.
3. Effectively communicate on a daily basis.

Extra Help employees may only work up to 28 hours per week for all University employment. Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University’s supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.
