Function / Position Summary To implement the U-46 science and health curriculum and classroom instruction with fidelity to improve academic achievement for all students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP). Job Duties / Responsibilities
Plans a program of study that follows district guidelines for multiple grade levels and, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
Implements researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students; acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
Creates an environment conducive to learning and motivates students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
Implements current district science and health curriculum that is grade level appropriate with appropriate modifications and accommodations per the IEP.
Implements program curriculum in support of student IEP goals.
Plans for and guides the learning process toward the mastery of science and health curriculum goals, and establishes clear learning targets and success criteria for all lessons, units, and projects that are clearly communicated to students.
Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration.
Collaborates with the Office of K-12 Science & Planetarium, Student Wellness and Specialized Student Services departments on a regular basis for support in implementing the intended curriculum and specialized support.
Implements formative and summative assessments of student progress to drive instruction and communicates progress to students and parents.
Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivates students to work collaboratively and to their highest potential.
Works cooperatively with building principal, special education administrator, and/or content coordinators in assessing his/her teaching strengths and weaknesses, and planning and implementing a program to improve his/her teaching competencies.
Participates in professional learning in the areas of science, health and program curriculum with embedded teaching strategies to meet the needs of special education students.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and Board policy.
Implements student and classroom behavior management supports/plans and assists in implementing student discipline policies.
May have case management responsibilities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in related subject from accredited university (Preferred)
