Function / Position Summary
The position is part of a pool of custodians who are assigned on a daily basis to support when extra help is needed. When assigned as additional support, this position works under the direction of the building Administrator and Custodian. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean and properly functioning building throughout the school day, providing staff and students with a safe, clean, and comfortable environment in which to learn.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Custodial duties, including but not limited to: mopping, sweeping, floor stripping and waxing, carpet cleaning, restroom cleaning and maintenance, ceiling tile and light replacement, univent and filter changes, furniture repair and assembly/adjustment, minor painting, trash removal, graffiti removal, daily and special event set ups, daily breakfast and lunch program set-up and clean-up.
Responsible for checking and logging building systems daily and notifying Plant Operation of problems.
Complete inventory counts, as needed.
Assumes general responsibility for building maintenance and cleanliness.
Assists building custodian, elementary maintenance technician, and maintenance and/or grounds staff, as needed.
Works as a team member to ensure building needs are met.
Grounds upkeep, including playground and landscape maintenance.
Flexibility to move between buildings during shifts.
Flexibility to work first or second shift, depending on the needs of the department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Frequently work at fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
Education
Current Junior or Senior in High School or High School Diploma/equivalent required.
Experience / Knowledge
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with adults, students, and with the various public that use the facility.
Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented.
Ability to work independently and as a team with minimal direction.
Ability to read and write in English and perform simple math.
Basic computer knowledge.
Ability to operate industrial-rated cleaning equipment.
Physical Demands
Ability to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, climb stairs, and walk for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to work on ladders.
Ability to push/pull 100 pounds.
Ability to work in inclement weather for prolonged periods.
Overall good physical health and ability to perform custodial-related duties.
Terms of Employment
This is a non-benefit temporary seasonal position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education. Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and the ability to travel to multiple sites within the district throughout the day.
