Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy is Hiring a Mathematics Fellow for Equity and Inclusion Near Aurora, IL

Overview

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is actively seeking applications for a Mathematics Follow for Equity and Inclusion. This position is responsible for proving Mathematics support to students in our highest need Mathematics courses, co-teaching various Mathematics courses, and providing culturally competent Mathematics-specific expertise to the team to better align curriculum with culturally inclusive practices.

The internationally recognized Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) develops creative, ethical leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. As a teaching and learning laboratory created by the State of Illinois, IMSA enrolls academically talented Illinois students (grades 10–12) in its advanced, residential college preparatory program. It also serves thousands of educators and students in Illinois and beyond through innovative instructional programs that foster imagination and inquiry.

This position will support IMSA's Diversity work by ensuring the delivery of quality, equitable, and inclusive constituent-centered support while promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that embraces the diversity of people and perspectives collaborating at IMSA to ignite and nurture creative, ethical, scientific minds that advance the human condition.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Co-teach in our highest needs Mathematics courses, where the greatest equity gaps exist
  • Create "in real time" remediation modules for the Mathematics curriculum in the greatest needs areas founded in culturally responsive Mathematics practice
  • Provide concentrated Mathematics study groups for students responding to areas of greatest need
  • Create and facilitate I-day Mathematics study sessions
  • Create credentials in Mathematics
  • Coordinate Mathematics center tutors and support
  • Participating in the department’s curriculum and assessment development work
  • Participating in all department and faculty meetings, faculty development programs, and community development days
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelors degree in Mathematics or related field
  • Strong background in Mathematics
  • Experience in developing culturally responsive Mathematics programs
  • Strong cultural competence 
  • An appreciation and understanding of working with diverse populations

Preferred Experience:

  • Masters degree in Mathematics or related field
  • Teaching experience in high school or higher education
  • Mathematics, or related field tutoring experience
  • Bilingual

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in an office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This role generally requires mobility, written and verbal communication, hearing and visual capabilities. However, reasonable accommodations, including assistive technology, may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform such requirements.

Salary and Benefits:

This is a full-time, 10 month exempt position. Salary is commensurate with experience and education. IMSA offers an excellent comprehensive benefits package, including health and retirement benefits. The State Universities Retirement System (SURS) is reciprocal with other Illinois public retirement systems such as the Teachers’ Retirement System of Illinois (TRS) and the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
