The Director of Alumni Engagement is an externally-facing and highly visible advancement professional responsible for building relationships with Illinois College (IC) alumni to engage them in realizing ICs mission, vision and goals. This work will be achieved through a comprehensive, personalized, and meaningful alumni program that plays a vital role in helping the College achieve fundraising and engagement goals. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Vice President of External Relations, the Director will design an approach that identifies, qualifies, and cultivates alumni as ambassadors, advocates, and investors.
Essential Functions:
The following list of duties is meant to be representative of the work performed in this position. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical extension of position responsibilities.

  • Develop, implement and evaluate strategic and operational plans that build affinity and connect alumni to the College and one another, increasing alumni engagement. 
  • Utilize metrics and benchmarking to measure growth in support.
  • Meet with alumni one-on-one and in groups to develop and strengthen relationships on behalf of the College and qualify them for potential leadership or major giving and connect them with opportunities to support student success.
  • Provide leadership and structure to the Illinois College Alumni Association Board of Directors working closely with the President and President-elect on their work to increase alumni involvement in Enrollment, Employment and Engagement.
  • Integrate alumni engagement into ICs fundraising goals. Lead the Colleges reunion giving programs and work closely with the advancement team to increase alumni giving rates.
  • Facilitates partnerships with Admission, Career Readiness & Experiential Learning, faculty, and other campus constituencies to strengthen the role of alumni in enrollment growth, student success, and sustainability.
  • Support and implement a stewardship program as a member of the stewardship action team that engages prospects and donors as well as recognizes their gift contributions to Illinois College.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Campus Events and Center for Student Engagement, Involvement and Belonging (CSEIB) to develop a dynamic Homecoming celebration, plan regional alumni events and other on-campus, alumni focused events. 
  • Gathering alumni information and success stories to support effective research and the celebration of alumni accomplishments.
  • Provide prompt & excellent service, support, and resources to alumni volunteers, maintaining regular contact.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5-7 years of related professional experience required (such as program development, relationship management or similar). Experience with higher education alumni engagement, advancement, or marketing preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, make connections, and derive energy in meeting new people required
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships, engage in creative problem-solving, and extend enlightened hospitality when working with others.
  • Demonstrated computer and software skills including Excel, database applications (such as Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or similar) and Google Workspace.
  • Intercultural competency; ability to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Outstanding writing and communication skills
  • Some evening and weekend hours will be required. Overnight travel is possible and would be coordinated well in advance.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and evidence of insurability
