Summary
The Academic Support Centers Student Employees support the Learning Resources Department by providing basic assistance and completing day to day tasks. Student Employees will be assigned to a specific job within the department. Student employees work on a part time basis, often with flexible schedules to accommodate class needs.
Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours to be eligible for student employment opportunities during Fall and Spring semesters. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours to be eligible for student employment opportunities during Summer semesters.
Essential Functions

Academic Support Centers Employment Opportunities Include:
Student Tutor
* Provide tutoring in areas of Accounting, English/ Writing, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Economics, Math, and Physics.
* Follow Academic Support Center policies and procedures.
* Participate in both informal and formal observations with colleagues
* Demonstrate engagement and growth in the position.
* Schedule tutoring appointment over the phone and in-person.
* Greet students and direct and refer them to tutors.
* Work a minimum of 4 hours a week.
* Perform related duties as required.
English/Writing Peer Consultant
* Work one-on-one with diverse student writers to develop their writing skills and academic literacies.
* Represent the Academic Support Center (ASC) within the college community.
* Exhibit enthusiasm for reading and writing.
* Further the Academic Support Center's mission and philosophy by connecting writing and tutoring theory to practice.
* Collaborate with faculty to support and enhance classroom practice.
* Establish and contribute to a sense of community among all readers and writer Develops and nurtures. mentoring relationships with peers, faculty, and administration.
* Participate as scholars in the larger professional academic fields of composition, literacy studies, and writing center studies.
* Participate in tutor training and diversity training sessions before the semester begins.
* Participate in online and in-person training throughout the semester.
* Follow the Academic Support Center's policies and procedures.
* Work a minimum of 4 hours a week.
* Attend consultant meetings as scheduled.
* Participate in both informal and formal observations with colleagues. Participate in an evaluative conference with the ASC's Administrative Team. Demonstrate engagement and growth in the position.
* Perform related duties as required.
Supplemental Instruction Leader
Support classes in a variety of subject areas:

* Attend all class meetings of the selected course, take accurate notes, and understand all the homework/reading assignments and projects
* Facilitate 3-4, 50-minute group study sessions per week throughout the semester.
* Complete up to 2 hours of preparation and planning work each week.
* Provide additional SI sessions as necessary (e.g. prior to exams).
* Meet with the course instructor weekly.
* Provide overall academic support in assigned subject.
* Be professional, knowledgeable and patient.
* Create a positive learning atmosphere within the SI Program.
* Use every opportunity to publicize the SI Program and services provided.
* Work 10-11 hours per week per course supported.
* Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
* Must be enrolled in 6 credit hours at ICC during the semester of employment for fall or spring or enrolled in 3 credit hours for summer employment.
* Possess excellent level of responsibility, reliability, punctuality and professionalism.
* A grade of B or better in the course(s) that the candidate intends to support Maintain academic standing.
* Received a minimum grade of A in ENGL 110 for English/Writing Peer Consultant.
* SI Peer Leaders must have a 2.5 GPA, be recommended by instructor for courses supported.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.
