Job Summary

Morae is looking for a package engineer: reporting to our VP of Packaging R&D. This highly collaborative role will lead the packaging development process from concept to production. The Packaging engineer is responsible for developing best-in-class packaging solutions that meet or exceed cost, quality, functional, and aesthetic requirements. This role will also oversee the development of our sister brands packaging and partnering with our chemist on developing full service turnkey products for our global cosmetics customers.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the complete packaging development and commercialization process, including the performance testing, and internal item setup.
  • Work closely with suppliers and cross-functional teams to optimize packaging for cost, timing, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing packaging issues involving designs, materials, and processes while providing creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of products to determine physical characteristics of the items, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive test plans and efficiency tools to ensure that packaging exceeds brand and customer expectations.
  • Review and coordinate packaging samples approvals and feedback between cross-functional teams and suppliers.
  • Effectively communicate project status to leadership and/or cross-functional teams.
  • Liaise between internal resources and vendors to execute product development.
  • Lead cross-functional teams from a product’s conception, all the way through to its launch.
  • Manage multiple product categories and customer scope, which require coordination of differing timelines, processes, and teams including, but not limited to, componentry, process engineering, and customer service team.
  • Review project statuses with cross-functional departments while simultaneously drive consistent communication with internal teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in product designing, packaging, or related engineering fields.
  • 3 years of experience in industrial or consumer packaging development role.
  • Experience in developing lifestyle/beauty/cosmetic packaging.
  • Knowledge of product development concepts, practices, and procedures including manufacturing processes and capabilities.
  • Profeciant knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Works collaboratively, but also takes complete ownership of projects.
  • Embodies a “no task in too small” attitude.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
