Job Description: This position is responsible for directing the sound financial management of the Desert Region (Nevada and southern Utah) through planning, analytical, coordinating, reporting, and monitoring activities. The incumbent is a member of the Desert regional leadership team. The incumbent reports directly to the Vice President of Finance - Operations and Analysis, and indirectly to the Desert Region President. The incumbent works closely with the operations and clinical leaders of the Region and its related entities to ensure coordination of financial operations. The incumbent is also responsible for partnering with region leaders to enhance performance, translate system objectives into regional priorities, and facilitate financial and strategic success. Scope The incumbent is responsible for directing and coordinating the operations of finance-related functions within the Intermountain Desert Region. The incumbent plays a key role in the development of finance strategies for these portfolio operations. Essential Job Duties In coordination with System leadership, establishes standards for performance, deliverables, and resources within the Finance function in the region. Jointly leads monthly and quarterly operating and business reviews with Operations leadership. Ensures the finance functions within the portfolio follow Intermountain Healthcare policies and procedures and meet all regulatory requirements regarding financial operations. Works with the regional leadership team ensuring alignment with the enterprise finance leaders, and System Finance in developing the long-term strategy for the portfolio. Coordinates the development of financial projections that reflect the portfolio's long-term plans. Reviews new strategies and determines the financial impact for each key strategy. Oversees the preparation of the region's dynamic planning and operating forecasts. Works with portfolio leaders in operations, finance, and others to achieve the portfolio's operating target. Continually pursues ways to improve operating efficiencies. Participates in governance structures as a representative of Finance. Oversees compliance activities and supports risk assessment processes led by the Vice President, Business Ethics and Compliance, and develops strategies to address identified compliance issues. Prepares accurate and timely financial reports and presentations to Intermountain senior management regarding portfolio finance matters. Works on cross functional System finance teams working closely with Corporate Finance, other regions and business units. Prepares or reviews financial analyses associated with feasibility studies, new programs, cost analyses, contracts, and other ventures and makes recommendations to portfolio leadership based on such analyses. Directly supervises, coaches, and mentors staff who are involved in the financial process; utilizes effective leadership skills to remove barriers to productivity and effectiveness. Works directly with operations leadership to ensure that effective plans are developed and implemented to manage variances to plan (e.g., revenue, labor, supplies, and other expenses). Consults with, and provides direction to, operations in the formulation of capital projects to ensure accuracy and compliance with System policies and the achievement of return on investment goals; participates in merger, acquisition, and divestiture activities as necessary. Seeks and develops strategic business development opportunities related to the functions and services in the portfolio. Provides oversight to ensure that statements of financial position are accurately and timely prepared and that locations comply with System internal control practices. Serves as staff to various Board and Board Committee meetings as requested. Works closely with the Supply Chain Organization in establishing cost performance goals and implementing actions to improve performance for the region. Effectively manages the productivity of the portfolio for the region. Works with Payor Contracting and provides insight and guidance on matters affecting the Region portfolio. Partners with key Desert regional leaders on strategy, business development, and operations for growth and sustainability. Minimum Requirements Master's degree in accounting or business (MBA). Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. Ten years of financial management experience, with at least five years in healthcare financial management. Expertise in financial analysis and the ability to solve complex analytical problems. Demonstrated leadership abilities in a team environment and ability to work collaboratively with others. Experience directly managing, coaching, and mentoring staff and employees. Commitment to upholding the values of the organization. Detail orientation with excellent organizational and analytical skills. Flexible and adaptable to change. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization (e.g., staff, management, physicians). Preferred Qualifications Experience working in an integrated health care system with matrixed reporting relationships. Experience working in capitated payment models. Experience working in hospital finance. Demonstrated track record of getting results in an appropriate manner. Values-driven executive supporting a culture of compliance. Physical Requirements: Interact with others to effectively receive and communicate information. Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. See and read computer monitors and documents. Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment. This is an exempt, full-time position with a compensation range of $320K - $365K annually and as determined by prior years of relevant experience.
