Job Description

Ignite is currently seeking a driven, detail-oriented Senior Human Factor Engineer to join our team supporting our government partner. This position is expected to be onsite in a government facility office environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Independently perform Human Factors Assessments (HFA) to research and evaluate Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Human Factors Engineering (HFE) data for consumers. 

  • Support Highly Immersive Virtual Environment (HIVE) motion-capture human modeling analyses. 

  • Assisting in design documentation, interface specification, and requirements development to ensure compliance with specified sections of Military Standards. 

  • Leads in developing the authoring of usability plans and user needs specifications, hazard analyses, task analyses, use error and risk analyses, expert reviews, heuristic evaluations and usability verification and validation for client products (as applicable). 

  • Designs and executes studies and report observations and findings for usability studies at various stages of product development from early prototypes through formative and summative formal health authority-mandated requirements and guidance. 

  • Participates in the use of advanced engineering modeling and simulation tools, instrumentation and measurement and design of experiments. 

  • Support Airworthiness analysis, artifact development and compliance summaries. 

  • Collaboration with Design Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to ensure evolving designs addresses program needs and adhere to Human Interface design requirements. 

  • Analyses and collaboration to facilitate equipment selection, design, and arrangement. 

  • Conduct computer based and empirical accessibility assessments from both an operator and maintainer perspective. 

Job Requirements

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • TOP SECRET with the eligibility to obtain access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). 

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Factors Engineering or a related discipline with equivalent experience/combined education. 

Desired Experience:

  • At least 5 years of applied experience in Human Machine Interface (HMI) or Human Factors Engineering (HFE), or related functional areas with an emphasis on aviation. 

  • Demonstrated expertise in aviation and technology (such as a technical degree, technology development/test experience, etc.). 

  • Understanding of systems and design thinking as well as HMI/HCI design principles and practices. 

  • Knowledge and skills at a level normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Human Factors, Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, Industrial Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related fields. 

  • Experience developing, administering and/or analyzing Human Factors questionnaires such as Usability, Workload, and Situational Awareness. 

  • Understanding of HFE evaluation methods and tools (e.g. Bedford Workload, China Lake Situation Awareness, USAF Flight Test Center and Modified Cooper-Harper scales) and experience in the application of these tools in the assessment of aviation designs. 

  • Project leadership skills with the ability to learn new disciplines and form new professional networks. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team, well organized, with strong oral and written communication skills, and proven ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with team members, internal & external customers, and senior leadership.

Estimated Salary Range: $75,000 to $175,000 depending on experience
