The duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conducting or assisting in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients
- Performing initial basic assessment procedures, including standardized psychological testing, clinical interviewing, mental status examinations, substance abuse evaluations, and psychological and nursing assessments
- Identifying mental health and nursing diagnoses and providing patient education
- Observing, monitoring, recording, and reporting the patient's progress
- Conducting or assisting in conducting group and individual counseling, therapeutic community, and other related milieu activities
- Instituting precautionary measures to prevent patient injury or suicide
- Assisting patients with nutritional, hygiene, and comfort measures
- Obtaining and recording vital signs
- Coordinating with other agencies regarding specified care, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and administrative functions
- Contacting military and community agencies to obtain collateral information and explaining and interpreting mental health services to patients or others
- Assisting in, or arranging patient referral to public, private, and military community agencies
- Preparing and maintaining records and reports pertaining to specialty services
- Assisting with care of individuals experiencing acute and post-traumatic stress reactions
- Preparing and maintaining treatment records
- Education: You need to have a certificate, which can be acquired through graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program
- Experience: You must have at least one year of experience as a Psychiatric Technician after graduation
- Life Support Certification: You should possess and maintain a current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification
- Security: You must possess the ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance
