IFC Systems Corporation is Hiring a Statistician Near Washington, DC

A key responsibility of the team is (i) to manage and ensure the relevance, accuracy, timeliness, accessibility, interpretability, and coherence of indicators published in the World Development Indicators (WDI) and other databases and (ii) to set standards for and provide guidance to World Bank staff on best practices for creating, managing, and disseminating high quality statistical databases.

DECID seeks a candidate who will work within the team responsible for producing, managing, curating, and disseminating the World Bank’s statistical indicators.
The following is an overview of key duties:
  • Develop and implement robust methodologies for indicator data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Improve indicator data quality processes and procedures to enhance overall data integrity.
  • Conduct indicator data quality assessments and audits to find and address any issues or discrepancies.
  • Develop and implement data validation and verification procedures to ensure data accuracy, including researching, implementing, and documenting best aggregation methods and methods for outlier detection.
  • Collaborate with data collection teams to set up standardized data collection protocols.
  • Design and implement statistical methodologies for indicator analysis and reporting.
  • Provide expert guidance, support and training to other team members and other staff at the Bank on statistical techniques and methodologies.
  • Offer expert guidance, support, and training to client countries on statistical techniques and methodologies for improved indicator development and reporting.
  • Stay updated with practice around the latest statistical methods and best practices in data quality assurance.

Selection Criteria

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics (econometrics), or a related field.
  • 5 years relevant work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical concepts, methods, and techniques.
  • Extensive experience in creating, managing, and disseminating databases of indicators.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS) and data manipulation tools.
  • Experience working with semi-structured data (JSON, XML) and APIs.
  • Experience programming in and developing robust, well documented Python or R packages for data management.
  • Experience with version control (e.g., Git) and collaborative development (e.g., Github).
  • Experience working with international metadata and data exchange standards like SDMX (Statistical Data & Metadata eXchange), ISO19139/19115, DDI.
  • Experience in data quality assessment and improvement.
  • Familiarity with data collection methodologies and survey design.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with diverse data sources and large datasets.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
