We currently have an immediate opening for a Freelance Interior Designer who thrives working autonomously but appreciates and believes in the power of a team. We take our work very seriously, while simultaneously maintaining a fun atmosphere and great attitudes.

We are a team-oriented Design Boutique Firm in search of the ideal candidate that has exceptional taste, is smart, hard-working, thrives, and excels in a creative environment, with strong attention to detail and above-and-beyond organizational prowess. Wearing many hats is part of the job, the ability to roll up your sleeves and assist with all additional areas here in our Firm to go above and beyond so that the job gets done is part of the interior designer job.

The Freelance Interior Designer will assist the principal in overseeing the large residential renovation and ground-up projects with high-end clientele from concept through installation. Design Associates and Assistants will aid the work of the Designer, so this role will also require effective communication and delegation to the team. The position requires direct involvement in every aspect of the design process.

Freelance Interior Designer Qualification Requirements :

  • At least 2 years of proven working experience in designing interior spaces (consultations, renovations, space planning, and new construction)
  • Extensively communicate with Principal, team, clients, contractors, architects, and vendors
  • Experience with model home/multifamily interior design
  • Build and manage FF&E project budgets based on design intent
  • Oversee FF&E, manufacturing, construction, and installation schedules Review architectural floor plans and elevations for design sign off
  • Present sourced material to clients in an organized and professional manner
  • Prepare final designs and specifications within budgetary restrictions Perform additional requests as they relate to operations
  • Technical competency in drafting and visual presentation (including any of the following: AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Sketch-up, Adobe suite programs; or any similar programs)
  • BA in Interior Design or Interior Architecture Developed portfolio/samples of Interior Design work
  • Project management skills
  • Familiarity with furniture manufacturers Excellent written, and verbal communication skills, and great time management
  • Valid driver license Must have own vehicle Occasional travel may be required
  • Local Residency in DC/MD/VA Bachelor's degree from an accredited interior design program Strong knowledge of resources in furnishings, materials, accessories, and contractors
  • Technical knowledge of the material, construction, color theory, and design processes
  • Great interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and team-mindset is a must
  • Work on site in the office
  • Possibility to become a permanent position

The role of a Freelance Interior Designer:

  • Collaborate with the Principal to design, develop, and execute multiple design projects through to their completion with minimal review and supervision
  • Consult with clients to establish design intent, style, schedule, and budget
  • Create detailed floor plans, renderings, elevations, tile plans, cabinetry layouts, comprehensive specification information, and installation drawings for all interior finishes
  • Identify and source products, finishes, etc., securing estimates and product availability within profit margin guidelines and budgetary restrictions; Provide design re-selections, as necessary
  • Prepare design presentations and present them to the client to effectively communicate design intent
  • Maintained budget and detailed cost tracking and communicate variances to the internal team and client.
  • Ensure accuracy and tracking of all clients-related expenses for invoicing
  • Perform site visits, field measurements, and oversee project installation from start to finish Attend and lead on-site meetings with clients and vendors as necessary
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure the successful outcome of all projects AutoCAD required Microsoft Office required, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Strong knowledge of resources in furnishings, materials, accessories, and contractors
  • Technical knowledge of the material, construction, color theory, and design processes
  • Must have car
  • The ideal candidate is motivated, focused, level-headed, and adapts with ease to changes in directives
