IDEA Public Schools is Hiring a Camp Rio Summer Program Assistant Manager - (Immediate Opening) Near Brownsville, TX

Role Mission: The Camp RIO Summer Program Assistant Manager is a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic leader that is resp onsible for assisting in the design of summer programs and helping to select and trai n personnel to deliver high-energy, kid-centered activities during Summer on the Histo ric Lula Sams property. The Assistant Summer Program Manager must support the efforts of the Summer Program Manager to ensure that Camp RIO staff effectively deliver programming that advances the core values of IDEA Public Schools along with an adventure-based curriculum that achieves awareness of land stewardship, instills a stewardship ethic and inspires action. This role will focus on the recruitment of staff and campers as well as supporting the role of the Summer Program Manager.

Compensation:
  • Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $42,519 and $ 49,322 , commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on organizational performance and goal attainment.

  • Employer-Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: 5 face-to-face counseling sessions within a year, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and other work-life services available at no cost.
Other benefits include dental and vision plans, disability, life insurance, parenting benefits, generous vacation time, referral bonuses and professional development. IDEA may offer a relocation allowance to defray the cost of moving for this role, if applicable.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities :
Engage over 1 000 1 st - 8 th grade students over the Summer of 20 2 4 in fun , adventure-based programming.
  • Help d e sign and develop high quality summer programming for students.
  • Enable children to develop skills in problem-solving and self-mastery.
  • Organize and maintain an environment conducive to experiential learning outdoors.
  • Assist in record keeping, and the general operation and maintenance of the camp during the summer camp operation.
  • Takes the lead on maintaining communication with new camp families.
  • 80% (360/450) total Summer Overnight Camp Registrations are filled by the first day of the final Summer Camp Session.
  • 73% (510/600) Total Summer Day Camp Registrations are filled by the first day of the final summer camp session.
Build a community-based environment that empowers children and attracts high-quality staff.
  • Assist in the r ecruit ment , train ing and coach ing of instructional and support staff in delivery of superior natural resources , adventure-based programming.
  • Assist in the d e sign and develop ment of summer camp programming to ensure the return of campers through all their years of eligible attendance.
  • Assist in the c onstruct ion of and finalize da ily agendas for every day of Summer Camp Training by Ma rch 13 , 20 2 3.
  • Serve as Summer Camp Registrar during the high-volume seasons.
  • Assist in planning and managing all Day Camp Programs.
  • 80% of Summer Camp Counselors will be committed by April 1st, 2024.
  • 100% of Summer Camp Counselors will be committed by May 6, 2024.

Supervisory Responsibilities :
  • This position will help to manage up to 50 seasonal Summer Counselors.
  • 8 5% of Camp Rio full-time team members will return to IDEA Public Schools for the 21-22 school year.
  • Help c oordinate Volunteer staff during special project s and summer camp
Competencies :
  • Assist the Summer Camp Manager to d evelop, lead and oversee the day-to-day operation of the summer program, including coordination of schedu les , trips, staff issues, and participant issues.
  • Instill respect for the environment , self, and others.
  • Reinforce IDEA's mission of College for All Students.
  • Maintain high levels of health and safety in organizing all activities for campers and staff.
  • Participate in development and implementation of program activities within the mission and outcomes.
  • Assist the ODED team by providing support with our reptile program when needed.
  • Act as a substitute Instructional Guide as needed.
  • Assist the Summer Camp Manager to r ecruit , hire , and evaluate seasonal Summer Counseling Staff .
  • Recruit campers to register for available openings during the current year, and f or the following Summer .
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in both attitude and behavior.
  • Openness to observation and critical feedback.
  • Work duties on camp include maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Be on time to all scheduled trainings and workdays .
  • Excitement about working for a school system that is changing the status quo of education in Texas.

Qualifications:
  • E ducation : College Degree Required (preferably in Education , Recreation, or Science field )
    • Applicable experience will be considered in lieu of education.
  • Experience:
    • Preferred experience working in a Summer Camp environment (leadership positions highly valued).
    • Ability to interact with all age levels. (Camper ages will range between 1 st grade through high school, and ability to work with adult groups is also required.)
    • Preferred experience working with school-age students.
    • Preferred experience in outdoor working environment and studies in Education, Science, Outdoor Education or Physical Education.
    • Ability to work well with a team, as well as be counted on to complete individual tasks as necessary.
    • Supervisory or management experience preferred.
    • Great attitude and ability to work with children in building self-esteem and self-confidence.
    • Ingenuity and Inventiveness, capable of thinking on one's feet and adapting to changes in scheduling.
    • Maturity of judgment and character
    • Capability of handling multiple responsibilities
  • Licenses or Certifications: A ble to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR and possibly Life Guarding.
