Description

Idaho Falls Community Hospital is looking for a Procedural Sedation Nurse to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting the cardiologist, interventional radiologist or midlevel provider by managing intraprocedural assessment, monitoring, and administration of conscious sedation. Also responsible for other case related medications as need, under the direction of the physician or midlevel provider.

The nurse will oversee nursing care of the patient and attend to quality patient care in the pre-procedural, post-procedural and intra-procedural settings. The nurse will monitor the patient for improvement or decompensation and complications before, during, and after cardiology and radiology procedures. The nurse will function cohesively and communicate effectively within the cardiology/radiology team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PROCEDURAL SEDATION NURSE FOR CATH LAB/IR AND CARDIOLOGY

  1. Performs nursing assessments to gather data and identify the patient's needs for this period of care.
  2. Pre-procedure duties consist of checking clinically important aspects related to the patient entering into the cath lab. Evaluates pre-procedural documentation and laboratory values and communicates effectively to physicians if necessary, requirements are not met.
  3. Assist physicians with patient management during cath lab catheterization, cardiology or IR procedures.
  4. Understanding of Special devices including but not limited to Intra-aortic balloon pumps, and other equipment utilized in patient care management.
  5. Collaborates with physicians and other health employees in coordinating the plan of care and facilitating patient outcomes.
  6. Provides care based on established standards of practice, policies and protocols.
  7. Ensures that patients are admitted, transferred and discharged in a timely and efficient manner.
  8. Demonstrates critical thinking skills for problem solving and anticipating patient care needs.
  9. Documents assessments, delivery of care and patients response to care in the medical record.
  10. Participates in performance improvement initiatives to improve processes and outcomes.

Qualifications


Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited RN program. Current RN Licensure in the State of Idaho. Current BLS and ACLS certification and renewals, as required. Complete the Basic Dysrhythmia class if no prior telemetry experience.

Experience:

2 years of cardiology catheterization lab experience is preferred.

Advanced Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation experience preferred.

Demonstrates the ability to function in a nursing role in a diagnostic and interventional catheterization. This includes patient management, monitoring and recording of procedures with appropriate documentation, cardiac medications, emergency management of cardiac patients.

Equipment/Technology: Basic to intermediate computer knowledge and skills with willingness to learn new technology. Ability to operate an external defibrillator, connect patient to 

monitoring system, and airway maintenance. Comprehensive knowledge of EHR documentation.

Language/Communication: Strong communication skills including closed loop communication within a team setting. Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English. Ability to communicate with patient, family members, physician, and members of the interdisciplinary team with professionalism and respect.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to perform basic nursing calculations of medication dosages under pressure. Able to calculate correct doses by applying necessary formulas as needed.

Mental Capabilities: Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Effective coping and stress management skills, and ability function effectively under emergent conditions.

Interpersonal: Ability to establish a working therapeutic relationship with patients, rapport with physicians and other members of the cardiac cath lab team. Maintains an excellent working relationship with members of the interdisciplinary team to facilitate optimum patient outcomes. Ability to coordinate care between departments.

Performance:  Performance will be judged by annual evaluations, competencies, and maintenance of licensure and certifications.
