GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE: The West Regional Pharmacy Director for the Saint Alphonsus Healthcare System (SAHS) and Saint Agnes Medical Center (SAMC) is responsible for overseeing Idaho's and Oregon's operations of four acute care pharmacies, several ambulatory care clinics that support the Saint Alphonsus Medical Group, and outpatient pharmacies that provide support to patients within the continuum of care and supporting standardization, creating efficiencies across and strategic initiatives the west region. The West Region Pharmacy Director works collaboratively and in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy at SAMC and the local A-2 Saint Agnes senior leader to ensure West Region standardization and strategies that support Trinity Health overarching pharmacy goals. Daily operational functionality and leadership at SAMC is managed by the SAMC Pharmacy Director. The West Region Director is responsible for the strategic planning, design, operation, and improvement of the organization’s medication management system. These responsibilities are fulfilled through his or her own actions, proper delegation to competent leaders and individuals on his or her staff, and collaborative efforts with other leaders across the West Region. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy. Successful completion of an ASHP recognized Pharmacy Residency Program preferred. A current pharmacist license in good standing with the Board of Pharmacy in Idaho required. A current pharmacist license in good standing with the Board of Pharmacy in Oregon a plus. 3-5 years pharmacy leadership experience in a complex health care system. Multi-state pharmacy leadership experience preferred. Board certifications in clinical pharmacy or ambulatory care pharmacy highly preferred. Advanced practice degree (MHA or MBA) highly preferred. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ability to work independently and handle stress appropriately. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond to client concerns. Fosters a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Effectively plans and designs services that reflect the vision, mission, and values of Saint Alphonsus Healthcare System. Develops, implements, and achieves business goals by effectively planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing all pharmacy service programs to provide efficient and effective systems. Manages drug utilization and medication use processes including prescribing, dispensing, administering, managing clinical and ambulatory programs and monitoring patient outcomes to ensure patient safety. Actively manages site finances, participates in departmental budget preparation and is responsible for expense and revenue performance in assigned cost centers. Effectively monitors and controls the purchasing and inventory management processes. Provides timely reporting and variance explanations to operations and finance departments as required. Establishes and monitors standards for safe, efficiently organized and orderly practice and work environment ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. Attracts, develops, and retains staff. Supervises direct reports, and reviews performance evaluations for pharmacists, technicians, and other support personnel. Oversees staff education and evaluates competencies of staff. Schedules and conducts regular staff meetings. Prepares and submits management reports as required. Ensures timely and accurate preparation and submission of payroll data. Maintain contact with other department heads, medical staff, and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote effective drug therapy. Lead evidence-based clinical decision-making about drug use, and control pharmaceutical expenses while maximizing patient benefit through the formulary system. Design, manage, measure, and improve the medication management system. Optimize the use of information systems and technology. Ensure quality outcomes through performance-improvement activities. Manage the pharmaceutical supply chain. Continually assess healthcare-related trends and discoveries to ensure that the value of pharmacy and pharmacists is advocated for and advanced in overall efforts to improve patient care. Ensure collaboration outside of the walls of the institution, fostering pharmacist communication with patients and outpatient providers after discharge to ensure the continuity of medication therapy and the monitoring of patient outcomes. Ensure patient’s pharmaceutical needs are effectively met by establishing staffing mix, policies, procedures, standards, and objectives for the provision of services throughout the system. Oversee the integration of pharmacy practice within the hospital system by coordinating resources to provide maximum level of services to patients. Plan, organize, and direct system pharmacy department efforts to monitor the quality of staff performance and the effectiveness of pharmacy programs. Manage finances and participate in departmental budget preparation. Responsible for expense and revenue performance of pharmacies in acute and ambulatory care within the health system. Ensure patient safety by overseeing medication use processes including prescribing, dispensing, administering, and monitoring patient outcomes at the system level. Supervise, educate, and evaluate direct reports. Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies. Prepare and submit productivity reports. Other duties as assigned.
