IC Imagine is Hiring a TEACHER - Upper School Exceptional Children OCS Near Asheville, NC

Licensed, dedicated Exceptional Children Teacher Occupational Course of Study needed at IC Imagine Charter School in Asheville, NC.

They will teach special education students in the Occupational Course of Study (OCS) pathway; support curriculum development and identify resource needs for the program; access and analyze data sources to help student achievement; collaborate with Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) staff and Pre-ETS staff to ensure appropriate supports; referrals and evaluations are occurring in a timely manner for identified students; design, provide, supervise and enhance in-school and community-based vocational opportunities and experiences for students. Write and Maintain IEP’s and corresponding files on time in a compliant manner. Assist parents in making connections for transition to postgraduate activities.

Salary based on IC Imagine’s Certified/ Licensed Teachers Salary Schedule There is a$1,000 signing bonus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure appropriate courses for Occupational Course of Study (OCS) pathway are updated and offered to students; stay current with OCS curriculum changes from NCDPI
  • Serve as co-teacher for NCVPS accessed courses for students on the OCS pathway
  • Develop/identify, implement and support a program curriculum grounded in evidence-based practice and centered on life skill development and job readiness, emphasizing functional literacy.
  • Research and make recommendations for vocational skill development programs for students; evaluate transition materials and assist with administration of transition assessments, as appropriate.
  • Conduct classroom and work site courses for Employment Prep classes 1-4.
  • Provide information to families and teachers on employment opportunities, living alternatives and community resources for students with disabilities.
  • Review of Career Portfolio for all students enrolled in the Occupational Course of Study to maintain adequate records regarding completion of vocational training requirements for the OCS.
  • Case Manage caseload of students to ensure proper IEP processes/documentation and facilitate IEP meetings.
  • Ensure that all parents are informed of their child’s participation in vocational training activities (in- school, community and work based).
  • Ensure that parents/students are aware of the Occupational Course of Study (OCS) graduation requirements/service hour requirements.
  • Ensure that the proper program paperwork is completed.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
  • Follow the processes laid out in the faculty handbook, respond to emails in a timely manner, keep grades updated weekly, and correspond regularly with families with pertinent information regarding student IEP goal progress and courses delivered in special education.
  • Will perform additional duties including, but not limited to, supervision during non-instructional time, attending after school events and meetings, participating in enrollment activities leading into and during the Open Enrollment period.
  • Adhere to all legal and ethical requirements of the teaching profession and set an example for others to do the same.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with families, school personnel, department administrators and community partners to meet the needs of the students

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field
  • Valid North Carolina teaching license in Special Education or ability to be provisionally licensed
  • 3 year of special education classroom experience preferred
  • Teaching experience with OCS and separate class (self-contained) programs preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force to move objects; classification consistent with light work
  • Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, squatting, reaching and bending
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times
