IAIS is Hiring an Occupational Nurse / Wellness Program Administrator Near Rapids, IA

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Case management for employee on-the-job injuries or illnesses, including coordination of medical care and working closely with physicians, health care providers, therapists, and counselors. Reviews and approves associated medical claims. May serve as a witness in legal matters.
  • Serves as a resource on employee health matters, reviewing such items as physician and health care providers’ reports on employee work restrictions. Assist injured or ill employees to determine when the employee can safely return to work.
  • Creates and leads a wellness program to include health and safety surveys, carries out studies and investigations on health or safety-related questions, makes recommendations for stretching programs and ergonomic job analysis.
  • Provide pandemic-related assistance to human resources in managing in-coming calls to determine the necessity for an employee’s absence or safe return to work.
  • Schedule and review return to duty and pre-employment health screening reports, vision, audiometric screenings, and fit for duty reports to determine physical ability to safely perform railroad work in accordance with various job descriptions.
  • Assist with the hearing conservation program and provide training to assure that protective equipment is appropriate and properly used.
  • Administer the family and medical leave program and all related processes.
  • Administer the short-term disability program and review applications to determine eligibility.
  • Review employee requests for a workplace accommodation with regard to the Americans with Disabilities Act and offer recommendations to human resources and department managers.
  • Conduct or oversee health clinics such as blood pressure screening, immunization clinics, and wellness programs.
  • Train and certify employees in First Aid/CPR/AED and Mental Health First Aid training at each IAIS location.
  • Assist in the company’s drug and alcohol program including general oversight of federal testing by becoming qualified as a Designated Employer Representative.
  • Maintains medical records electronically.
  • This position requires occasional travel to meet with employees or applicants at IAIS locations and with the potential for overnight stays.
  • Takes initiative to perform other duties as needed or assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Licenses/Certifications and Work Experience

  • Minimum of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Iowa or Illinois.
  • Five years of experience in occupational health preferred or five years of successful clinical experience.
  • Certified or willing to become certified to instruct First Aid/CPR/AED/Mental Health First Aid
  • Must maintain a current and valid driver’s license and be insurable under IAIS’s commercial auto policy throughout IAIS employment.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Mental Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to exercise judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with management, co-workers, peers, employees, applicants, and the general public.
  • Must be a self-starter who can identify and deal effectively with complexities as they arise and exercise independent judgment in making decisions.
  • Requires good working knowledge of FMLA and ADA procedures and compliance relating to federal and state employment regulations.
  • Requires good working knowledge of FELA.
  • Requires effective Microsoft PC Skills, with strong emphasis in MS Excel spreadsheets and working knowledge of general office equipment and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required. Presentation skills desired.
  • Flexibility to accept changes and respond in a positive and timely manner.
  • Ability to learn and apply policies, procedures, and regulations as required by IAIS and applicable governmental bodies.
  • Requires continued training to remain licensed, certified, and/or knowledgeable in areas of responsibility.
  • Above average communication skills and ability to work effectively with both employees and managers.
  • Ability to convey a positive and professional image to applicants, employees, and visitors at IAIS.

Physical Requirement:

Position involves constant (67-100%) talking and hearing either on the telephone or in person and close vision with viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) standing, sitting or walking. May be stressful at times due to interruptions and multiple job duties to be completed by deadlines. 

Working Conditions:

Position involves working in an office setting and traveling to meet with employees. Incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions or noise levels. The job requires the individual to follow IAIS and federal standard safety procedures and to avoid possible injuries.
