Employment Type: Full time Shift: Description: Coordinates clinical informatics functions, directs, collaborates, supports and optimizes the usage of clinical information management and management systems to enhance patient safety. Prepares, validates and disseminates routine and special informatics information and reports. Provides services to individuals, nurses, physicians, departments, and clinics that utilize the electronic health record. Employment Type: Full Time Shift: May Vary Position Purpose: Under limited supervision, coordinates clinical informatics functions, directs, collaborates, supports and optimizes the usage of clinical information management and management systems to enhance patient safety. Prepares, validates and disseminates routine and special informatics information and reports. Provides services to individuals, nurses, physicians, departments, and clinics that utilize the electronic health record. Ensures the quality of nursing practice in the Emergency Department. Is responsible for general staff oversight and services for the Emergency Department, in collaboration with the Manager of Clinical Services. What you will Do: Demonstrates proficiency in effective communication with patients, general public, hospital personnel, and fellow employees, in person and via telephone. Collaborates with managers and staff to identify information management and clinical information system needs. Collaborates with physicians and clinical staff to develop and maintain local order sets. Provides training, education, issue resolution and serves as a change agent to physicians to enhance utilization of CPOE. Provides education as a consultant and/or instructor to nurses and physicians on clinical information management and clinical information management system use at Baum Harmon Mercy. Evaluates and recommends information processes and systems to support the clinical information management needs. Serves as primary liaison for clinical department/services related to information management and clinical information management system(s). Provides project management/implementation support for clinical information systems within Mercy Medical Center. Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in improving patient safety and reducing risk to patients. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies and Procedures. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the quality of patient care services delivered within the Emergency Department. Serves as a resource and consultant for staff members. Is responsible for investigation of, and securing bids on, capital equipment for areas of responsibility, with consent for purchase by administrative approval. Is responsible for Quality Improvement programs and activities for areas of responsibility. Is responsible for the development, evaluation, revision (at least annually), and implementation of policies and procedures, which serve as operational guidelines for the Pharmacy & Emergency Department. Assesses area of responsibility for supplies, system of re-stocking/PAR levels, workflow, and equipment maintenance. Assists in the annual budget preparation for areas of responsibility. Assists with the orientation of new staff, ongoing staff training and competencies, and skills validation activities. Monitors Emergency Department log for accuracy and completeness. Serves as the Trauma Nurse Coordinator, being responsible for the Iowa Trauma Plan implementation and revision, with the assistance of the Director of Nursing. Stays current with EMTALA regulations and provides hospital staff instructions, as needed. Addresses EMTALA variances. Minimum Qualifications: Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Iowa. BSN or relevant bachelor’s degree preferred. Requires a minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing practice with prior experience and knowledge of ER and nursing informatics preferred. Must have ability to manage a team and facilitate groups in a collegial manner in a shared leadership/collaborative environment with a high degree of initiative, judgment and organizational skills to manage multiple projects under tight time frames. Must have strong working knowledge of contemporary trends in hospital management and Quality Improvement/Process Improvement methods. Requires good interpersonal and communication skills including public speaking, presentation and writing skills.
