The Import Specialist, under the direction of the Manager, International Logistics will be responsible for the timely and accurate clearance of imported MPA Parts & Accessories shipments, for the Kia or Hyundai brand, through Customs & Border Protection (CBP), a division of the Department of Homeland Security. The Import Specialist, in conjunction with MPA Systems Group, will review all MOBIS invoices via FTP file and load them into MPA’s mainframe for use by MPA’s PDCs for inventory receipts, by the Finance Department for landed costs and payables, and for FTP transmission to MPA’s broker for Customs Clearance purposes. This position will work closely with Finance, Customs Brokers, and MPA Logistics to insure timely entry of import shipments into the U.S., under the rules and regulations as defined in Title 19 Code of Federal Regulations. In addition, the Import Specialist will assist the Customs Compliance Supervisor with automotive parts classifications and updates. This position will also be required to update and maintain mandatory records, as well as the documentation of all shipments administered by the Trade & Customs Compliance Department. This will help ensure MPA compliance with CBP and other government agencies and will minimize risk during CBP Compliance Audits, as well as MPA’s exposure to financial penalties.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer the Mobis Korea invoice download of Air, Sea, and DHL import shipments for receiving and Customs purposes, for Kia or Hyundai Parts & Accessories. (60%)
  • Help maintain databases for harmonized codes, technical parts, and broker information. (20%)
  • Administer the daily tracking & logging of Kia or Hyundai Parts shipments, including ETD, ETA, and Customs Clearance monitoring. (15%)
  • Assist Manager/Supervisor in short and long-range planning functions & reporting, as needed. (5%)
Key Performance Indicators
  • Process daily air and sea import shipments in AMOS and forward them to the Customs broker for Customs clearance and ISF (Importer Security Filing) purposes.
  • Process daily DHL Dealer Drop shipments in AMOS, for finance department sales/landed cost & service tracking purposes.
  • Responsible for the correct entry and maintenance of all air and sea import documentation for MPA Parts & Accessories. This includes correcting any transmission errors from Korea that would result in missing data or non-reconciliation of Supply Purchase Orders.
  • Resolve routine operational issues by working with the Customs Broker, as needed, to ensure timely Customs Clearance on all import shipments.
  • Assist with Harmonized Code database updates for MPA parts/accessories.
  • Help maintain databases related to broker entry and parts technical information.
  • Maintain all import documentation in accordance with Customs Recordkeeping and MPA Document Retention Policy.
  • Assist Manager/Supervisor in short and long-range planning functions, and/or reporting, as needed.
  • Provide support to other Departments as required for import and export, as well as other miscellaneous support functions as needed by the MOBIS Parts America Coordinators and executive management.
Work Schedule & Travel Requirements
  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • The position is temporarily remote due to COVID-19
Educational Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or, two years of college in Business Administration with equivalent directly related experience is highly preferred.
Experience Requirements
  • 2-4 years of experience in related import activities such as broker and/or freight bill/invoice auditing, accounts payables, accounts receivables, and other import-related activities.
  • Experience in International Inbound freight recovery from Ports & Airlines
  • Experience with an automotive parts importer in the areas of importing, transportation, and accounts payable.
