Our Team

Electrified Propulsion Controls and Efficiency Development (ePCE) is one of the Engineering Departments in the Electrified Propulsion Development (ePD) Division of HATCI. ePCE’s mission is to add tangible values to Hyundai/KIA/Genesis products for North American market by improving propulsion system efficiency and performance.

The Position

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently seeking an Engineering Manager - Propulsion system Management and Integration (PMI) at our Superior Township, MI facility. PMI is an Engineering Group within ePCE department to undertake engineering projects related to engine and electrified propulsion management system test and validation as well as new technology investigation for propulsion performance enhancement. This position reports to ePCE Department Manager (Sr. Manager).

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage team’s resource and develop/improve its engineering capability
  • Understand ePCE’s business model, strategic direction, purpose, and mission and continually communicate them with direct reports
  • Set up team goals and objectives aligned with department’s direction and drive engagement, execution, and results
  • Develop and manage team plan, strategy, and budget allocation/usage
  • Assign engineering tasks to direct reports, evaluate and improve their performance
  • Participate in department resource planning, goal setting, and technology road map creation
  • Facilitate inter-team collaboration and knowledge sharing through transparent communication
  • Produce and deliver executive presentations on key project milestones and achievements
  • Remain current with new technology and competitive products as a means to drive innovation
  • Provide deep dive technical support for pre-production and post-production issues
  • Initiate and drive engineering projects related to:
  • Engine Management System (EMS) mapping and validation
  • OBD calibration and validation including extreme ambient condition tests
  • OBD fleet program operation for in-use vehicle emission and durability verification
  • Support for EMS manufacturing, quality improvement, field claim investigation, and certification
  • New technology development for enhanced emission regulation and cost reduction
  • Competitor ICE/hybrid vehicle benchmarking
  • New EV VCU control logic calibration and production program support
    • Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 15%)

Core Capabilities

  • The candidate must possess a history of strong project leadership and a proven track record for timely project delivery and project management.
  • The candidate must have very good communication skills and be able to develop/keep good relationship with tech experts from R&D Center and counterpart teams.
  • Strong knowledge in xEV propulsion system principles and operation
  • A proven track record of engineering projects related to xEV testing and knowledge in vehicle test procedures including calibration process/methodology
  • Working knowledge of vehicle communication network systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.) and instrumentation/operation of data acquisition systems such as ETAS/INCA
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engine emission, OBD development, and OBD monitoring systems and related regulations
  • Good written/oral communication and interpersonal skills

Required Experience:


Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related engineering degrees from an accredited university
  • 8 years of automotive engineering experience
  • 3 years of project management experience
  • 2 years of people management experience (as an engineering supervisor or a manager)
  • Candidates applying for positions with Hyundai and KIA must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related fields
  • Experience in Battery Electric Vehicle controls and electrified drive units
  • Knowledge of calibration process using design of experiments and optimization techniques
  • Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink
