HyperLight is Hiring an Integrated Photonics Engineer Near Cambridge, MA

Integrated Photonics Engineer

HyperLight is a venture-backed startup spun off from Harvard University in 2018 based on discoveries that enabled thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) photonics. Our photonic integrated circuits (PICs) offer exceptional performance unmatched by other materials and are manufactured at high volume and low cost. We design and manufacture tailored chips to customers around the world for optical communications, sensing, and emerging photonic technologies like quantum computing and AR/VR. We partner with our customers from conceptualization to mass production to deliver new regimes of system performance.

Our growing team is looking for an Integrated Photonics Engineer. This person will work cross-functionally to execute cutting-edge projects with our key customers and supply chain partners. These projects will range from novel device fabrication and development in a cleanroom environment, to challenging optical device characterization on chips and wafer scale. The person in this role will be a critical part of our team as we enable our customers and suppliers to push the boundaries of device performance and tap into new and emerging technology applications.

The success of the HyperLight team originates in individuals who strive for excellence and continuous learning, and practice humility and care for their teammates. If this sounds like you, we encourage you to apply!

We provide:

  • Market competitive compensation.
  • Comprehensive health coverage: family and individual plans, vision, dental.
  • 401(k) retirement plans with employee matching.
  • Life and disability insurance.
  • Commuter benefits and subsidies.
  • Flexible hybrid work and vacation policies.
  • Professional growth and mentorship opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Become an expert on our PIC measurement techniques, test automation, and data processing.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to support device fabrication and development in a cleanroom environment.
  • Produce high quality technical reports and summaries for sharing technical insights internally as well as with customers and supply chain partners.

Desired qualifications:

  • Either 3 years of relevant work experience or a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Expertise with PIC characterization using common test equipment, such as swept laser systems, photodetectors, polarizers, optical fibers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with device fabrication in a cleanroom environment, using semiconductor processing and metrology equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and an enthusiasm for collaboration within and across teams.
  • Familiarity with the working principles of photonic, semiconductor, or RF devices like lasers, electro-optic modulators, transmission lines, optical fiber, optical amplifiers, etc is a plus.

Authorization to work in the US required.

HyperLight is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.
