Summary:

As a member of the plant management team, the Improvement Manager’s responsibility is to identify, develop and implement initiatives to improve manufacturing processes as well as support processes, procedures, generating significant improvements in efficiencies, safety, quality, and overall cost-savings. Overall ambition is to establish AMBS (Aluminum Metal Business System) as our common cultural platform for operations and improvement work in the entire organization.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Optimize and maintain the system for the five AMBS principles: standardized work processes; defined customer/supplier relationships; optimized flow, dedicated teams, and visible leadership.
  • Collect, analyze, and model information from process and machine capability studies and validate processes.
  • Analyze and identify opportunities to reduce process variation, improve process capabilities and optimize process performance.
  • Establish, write, and train to designated procedures and work instructions in accordance with established AMBS standards and requirements. Conduct audits and WOC’s of procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Provide data for qualification of new processes or commissioning of new equipment.
  • Engage employees in continuous improvement activities; train and coach them to desired standards.
  • Serve as the primary resource to department managers and supervisors for problem identification, resolution, and continuous improvement.


Job Requirements
:

  • Four-year degree in a technical discipline such as engineering is strongly preferred. In certain circumstances, a combination of education and experience can be substituted.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in process, manufacturing or industrial engineering is required.
  • Knowledge of the casting process and molten metal background is desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of ASTM standards is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of continuous improvement tools such as SPC, and statistical methods is essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to speak effectively in front of employees and stakeholders of the organization.
  • Must be able to work cohesively in a team environment.
  • Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office tools.
  • Prior knowledge of Microsoft Power BI, SAP is strongly preferred.


Physical and Work Environment Demands:

  • Work is partly performed in a climate-controlled office setting, partly on the plant floor where individual will have exposure to substantial heat and loud noises.
  • May occasionally be exposed to fumes and airborne particles.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
