Job Summary:

As a heavy equipment operator, you’ll embody this approach while performing tasks involving the operation of large construction vehicles on job sites.

Position Description

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Certified to operate light, medium, and heavy equipment on jobsites such as:
  • Bulldozers
  • Graders
  • Scrapers
  • Front end loaders
  • Heavy rollers (over 20 tons)
  • Backhoes (with extended length of more than 25 feet)
  • Drive and operate pickups, flat beds, water trucks, and dump trucks to and from jobsites.
  • Ensures the proper materials have been obtained for the project.
  • Drive pickups with trailers to transport building materials to and from the jobsite.
  • Perform DOT vehicle inspections of company vehicles before and after operation and fill out the appropriate documentation.
  • Perform routine maintenance when necessary.
  • Able to read and understand plan specifications to ensure work can be done safely and in the correct location.
  • Document work hours according to DOT regulations.
  • Uphold safety standards and encourages fellow employees to do the same.
  • Any other duties assigned by the jobsite superintendent.

Position Requirements

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow DOT, OSHA, and Hutton safety protocols.
  • Able to lead and motivate others to accomplish tasks safely.
  • Able to productively work in a team environment.
  • Able to follow directions as specified.
  • Able to clearly communicate instructions.
  • Able to do repetitive detailed work as needed.
  • Able to work on school campus jobsites within proximity of children.
  • Able to work out of town for multiple days per week for multiple months.
  • Able to get to and from work utilizing own transportation.
  • Qualified operator on everyday equipment such as: forklift, aerial lift, and scissor lift.
  • Must be able to read and interpret plans, specs, and shop drawings.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools, including, but not limited to:
  • Air hammers
  • Drills
  • Jackhammers
  • Sanders
  • Laser level
  • Optical level
  • Theodolite

Special Requirements & Licenses:

  • Possess a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL).
  • Class A CDL with a tanker endorsement is preferred.
  • A pristine driving record.
  • Must have an updated Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • Must have a clean record on the FMCSA Clearinghouse for Drug and Alcohol testing.

Education and Experience:

  • High school graduate or GED is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience of operating heavy machinery.
  • OSHA 10 Certified
  • Training opportunities will be available on the job to further advance your skills.

Work Environment:

  • You will work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to do the following with or without accommodations:
  • Lift, push or pull materials weighing up to 80 lbs. (25 lbs. consistently)
  • Walk, bend, twist, turn, stoop, kneel, crawl, climb and squat in cramped or awkward positions on a frequent basis.
  • Climb to unlimited heights on ladders or scaffolds.
  • Operate machinery that vibrates (drills, sanders, jackhammers, etc.) on a repetitive basis.
  • Perform tasks that require gross and fine hand motions and coordination.
  • Perform tasks that require clear and sharp vision.
